Hi,
This is a sad story. I left the sunroof open on a beautiful sunny day. Unfortunately, I was not there to see the cloudburst, resulting in the interior being soaked. The shift selector is locked, and all warning lights came on....To cut a long story short, the AA got me going again, but I have just driven 150 miles in second gear...it looks like I need a new selector mechanism which is part A2106270524. Can anyone advise? I know Mercedes no longer have these...so my E430..which is just perfect (apart from this) is looking at a very short career.

Aren't they the same as all E Classes from that era? If yes then a second hand one should not be difficult to find.

Thanks for the above advice. I have located one replacement so far, which is promising after just a few hours search. I have the part number and I think it safest to stay with that unless someone can confirm that all E-Class selectors are the same.
My question is about installation. Does installing one of these require reprogramming an any way? And while I am asking, does anyone know of any surprises I need to be aware of?
BW, I am still kicking myself for this.
George

No coding required.

if you have the part number, just buy the same part number, job jobbed!

Hi, the part number is A2106270524 ...,but Mercedes no longer provide replacements. Can you recommend anyone who could supply this?

Make sure you buy the tiptronic shifter console.
Old shifters gate have 1234PRND.
Your shifter is the PRND+/- version

Your car does it smell musty after it got soaked from rain?
Did everything dry up?

Hi,
#It didn't smell musty...but it seems the problem was that water got into the "sealed" shift unit and stayed there. We removed the board and dried/cleaned it but the damage was done. Anyway, a replacement shifter is coming today or tomorrow from Prestige Allparts LTD at www.prestigeallparts.co.uk, at £275 plus post & VAT. Thanks to YouTube I think I can fix it. Right now the car is drivable, but only if I keep a pencil to override the transmission lock. The gear change goes in with a nasty clunk, which I am hoping will vanish with the new board. I hope Mercedes electric cars are better sealed than this or else they will have some very expensive and interesting running problems.

I hope you get it all sorted out.

Electronics getting wet could happen to any car if you let sun roof or window stay open.
Nothing is sealed for cabin electronics.
You know why there are so many cupholders in a new car, manufacturers making more money selling replacement electronics parts.
People are clumsy, sloppy and stupid, accidently spill the jumbo cup on transmission shifter gate wonder how many owners had fried their electronics by accident?

A good rule, never drink or eat inside a car.
You'll mess things up
