2002 S500L

Arches likely rotten, I can see poor masking on the black rubber above the sideskirt and what looks like rattle can repairs on the others.

Looks good from a distance, however like all W220s, likely needs alot of rust work doing on it.

Budget £6k for ABC shocks and a pump replacement as well as more £ for ABC pipework .

No mention of corrosion on its MOT history.......

True....but often they get failed or advised if the rust is on "any load-bearing or supporting structure or supporting panelling within 30cm of the mounting location".

That is a lot of car for the outlay! If i was in the market for a big V8 saloon i certainly would be looking at this one!

Would be safer to buy a W221 on slightly more miles with regular servicing, even though it's nowhere near as elegant.

The stretch on that driver's seat is suspicious. I know they all did, but if this had genuinely been gathering dust in a garage for two decades, it shouldn't be that stretched.

Would help to understand the ownership and servicing history. If it was just a couple of long term owners with garages in leafy Surrey, it would be more encouraging, but if it spent five years in Slough "not being driven," alarm bells should ring. ("Buy the owner first, then the car.")

Rust can be checked in person. Whoever buys it needs to be wary that waking it up by putting some normal miles on it again could produce a few gremlins. There are plenty of very nice older S class around with low mileages to choose from.

All valid points, and something one would definitely have to check out in detail. Luckily i was in the market for an SL ..... and maybe an 'S' class, but the SL is more than enough for me, When i am too old to scrabble in and out of her then it will be time for a 'S' .....or if i am that infirm an ML ----- Hopefully that will be decades time
