Just wondering if anyone has fitted repair panels to corroded wheel arches.?

wondering how the job went.?

mine is becoming a bit of a mess and spoiling the looks of the car.

Thanks

Hi
Its spoiling the look of the car.
both sides are pretty much a Mixture of rusty silver. I suspect when I start to do anything there will be holes.
the car has done almost 200000 but it’s still nice to look at.

I guess this is one of the 'galvanized' W203's we all keep hearing about (Galvanized my a$$) I have one so I know exactly what you experiencing . Note: if rust is present here it is highly likely to be present elsewhere. Hidden behind the rear number plate plastic mount panel is one.

The success of having the repair panels welded in is entirely down to the skill of those doing the job. If you think it is worth it financially I am sure someone on here can recommend a body shop somewhere near to you.

This is what happens if you leave it.

Let us know how what you decide to do and how it goes , good luck.

You are right there , they must have galvanized them with salt , my W211 had to have some welding done to it

Doesn't look too bad.
Here is what I have always done with good results.

Remove the side skirts.

Wire brush all the loose rust.

Apply rust remover gel( bilt hamber deox gel is good one).

Cover the gel with cling film to prevent drying.

Clean.and repeat process until rust is all gone.

Paint area with epoxy primer.

Paint with rattle cans for budget repair ,or get a professional smart repair guy

Some people say that if your 2006 C class is rusting it MUST be because of previous damage/poor repair because ALL C class (and others) post 20XX (pick a year) were fully galvanised by MB and can not possibly be rusting from beneath the original paint.

To all of those people I say Bollox , Not sure where this myth started , maybe they were all galvanised ? But if they were galvanised it did not work.

I agree , I believe the panels were not very well galvanized to start with ، plus the design of rear wheel arches isnt brilliant , gets all the stones and dirt from road , In later W211 the rear arch lips seem to have been better painted and a rubber strip was glued to it to prevent stone damage

Thanks for the input

I had never heard about a Galvanised body.
should last years then
When we talk galvanizing in cars its a very very thin layer of zinc coating , its not like a galvanized fence or motorway barrier.

The thicker the zinc , the better
