In the roof of the glovebox, behind a velcro flap is a white nylon gear wheel. Looks like it might adjust something.

It adjusts the tension in the glovebox opening system. Best to leave as is. If you ever have a problem with the glovebox not opening you can take the side panel off and slide something thin in the gap to turn that cog to help get the glovebox open.
