Hi

Posted earlier about fuel consumption inner city for my car. I'm beginning to suspect it is what it is, thinking about remapping. Has anyone done this to an e320 cdi? I've been told a stage 1 should take you up to about 280 bhp with an additional 60 ft/ilbs of torque. They weren't able to confirm that it would consume fuel any differently. I'm based in the Midlands, can anyone recommend anybody? I'd want it to be a rolling road tune. So far I only know of MSL performance. Anyone tried them?

If you wish to generate more power then you are going to have to convert more energy from fuel to do so. If you can produce more torque lower down then you may be able to use a higher gear than previously at some road speeds which may bring a small fuel saving but if you exploit the additional power then you will pay for that in increased fuel consumption. Not forgetting the probable increase in insurance premiums, do not be tempted to increase the performance and not declare it, insurance companies often check ECU's for any modifications after crashes. If caught then your insurance will be invalid and you may be liable for all and any costs involved.

In the current temperature my 320CDi is showing around 29mpg from start and within a few miles of fast A road it rises to 38mpg on average. If your thermostat is OK and engine temperatures are getting up to normal then check the air filters, when where they last changed?

The guy I bought the car off said it's just been serviced. I'll lift up the box to take a peak. I'm assuming because the car gets up to temperature in what seems as expected, the thermostat is ok. I'm driving inner city, have you ever seen 21 mpg pottering about?

To be fair I do not really have much city driving, on the odd occasions I have (Salisbury) then I have seen it drop to 28mpg but no lower but this probably represents 10 minutes driving in city traffic,

You said it had been serviced, do you know if the gearbox fluid has been changed?
