2007 E500 - are they supposed to creep?

Well everydays a school day! Things learned today...

No creep in 'C'.
Creep in 'S' - yay! And its not Sport but Standard.
Car will restart in previously selected trans mode - yay!
Single quick / hardish press of brake to activate hold.

Read the owners manual you say - PaH 🤣 🤣 🤣 !

Thanks all.

Mmmm. Not convinced

I thought C is Comfort (2nd gear start), S is Standard (first gear start)

Not sure about no creep in Comfort as I thought that I’m normally in Comfort.

I’ll double check.

May be down to the fact that we have different Models of MB, but I normally drive in E for Economy, if I hit the Stop Button the Trans reverts to C before the Engine stops turning over! Then will Restart in C!:oops:

Nope. It definitely creeps in "C" and in "S"

Certainly does on my facelift S211 E500, and I'm pretty sure it did on all my other V8's

From first principles, it's all about convenience in crawling town traffic.

Later models start in the most efficient transmission mode - and engine mode if available - so that the car starts every journey in the same modes used for consumption testing. Older models may not to do this.

Perhaps your idle speed is low - or your torque converter is slipping slightly - meaning that there is not quite enough torque reaching the rear wheels in second gear, only in first gear.

The texture of the ground can be enough to interrupt the fine balance. Cars which will creep on smooth, hard and flat surfaces may not creep on rough, soft undulating surfaces such as grass, sand and gravel.

Time to check your ATF level, methinks, if you haven't already.

Depending on your mileage and service history, might be wise to change it "while you're down there."

I did a full trans service when i bought her. 144k miles.

No issues when driving. Torque converter locks as should. All shifts smooth etc...
