I’ve got a CLS 350 CDI, I love the car but it’s hardly used now I’m not a motorway muncher anymore. And it’s not really worth much to sell, less than £5k these days!!

I want to be able to sleep in it but the back seats don’t fold down. Has anyone ever cut through the bulkhead behind the rear seats to the boot?

Mercedes did; they called it the CLS Shooting Brake. I strongly suspect that a d-i-y version would both invalidate your insurance, or if declared, mean you would have problems getting cover, and so compromise the structural strength of the body that it would no longer comply with the Construction and Use regulations.

See if you could find a swap for a Shooting Brake? Same age, same sort of condition, similar spec, likely to be the same sort of value as, or not much higher than, your car. There are plenty of small-time dealers on eBay; you might be lucky. Or advertise it on AT, but word the ad that you want a swap, not a sale?

On my W204 (not CLS), the fuel tank was under the rear bench. There was a variant of the W204 where the back of the rear seats could be folded forward, and that variant did not have the rigid metal bulkhead that my car did - but I have no idea if these cars had additional strengthening elsewhere to compensate for the loss of rigidity.

I think the shooting brake was the next model up. I might see if I could part ex for an estate. That’s not a bad idea tbh. It’s up for sale on autotrader if anyone is interested £2860 Auto Trader UK - New and Used Cars For Sale
Open to offers as it’s got some bodywork and high motorway mileage.

The fuel tank might be underneath the back seat. I’d just be looking to cut through just the back with the empty book space behind. I’m presuming it’s just sheet metal and the rigidity would come from the sides of the bulkhead, parcel shelf, boot floor etc. I’m only floating the idea tbh probably not something I can be bothered doing if it’s complicated.

Just looking at the AT advert buddy , the car just looks dirty and unloved . A couple of hours cleaning and some photos on a dry day somewhere nice might change your fortunes .

I didn’t think they were bad pictures. But yes I could probably change the pictures to be fair. Good suggestion

ULEZ is coming to most towns and impacting older diesel prices

State in your ad "offers considers," - do not include the words 'NEAR offers'

In the ad - tell them how long you've had it and reason for selling - it all helps

Thank you. I have edited the ad with your suggestions 👍🏼.
