2010 E350*CDI Blue EFFICIENCY*[265] exhaust smell in cabint

Hi all

I have just purchased the above vehicle, and on the way home yesterday and driving local today I was getting some exhaust fumes entering the cabin !!!
I have spoken to the garage who I purchased it off and they said said take it to a local garage and they will sort it under warranty.

does anyone have any idea why exhaust or similar fumes would be able to enter the cabin area ?

Just hoping it might be an easy fix !!

Any help appreciated.

It will be either a leaky turbo to manifold gasket or a leaking injector I would think.

the car still performs great, and the smell is not there all the while !
how would the smell from those get into the cabin?

Hi Jaymanek
just been for another drive to see whether it is still there,
yes it is still happening so turned the engine off and when i got out of car and walked round the front i could smell the fumes there !!
does this still make you think the same?

Cheers

Could be leaking injector seals. Have a look around the injectors and see if there are any black deposits

Thanks how do i get to look at them with a massive cover on engine?
also on the nearside at back of engine there seems to be a wet patch where the dipstick is, not sure why it is wet as only got it yesterday, but the garage did say it had just had oil service !!! but this smell is definitely burnt fuel.

Just done a lot of reading about this problem and yes it seems it is the injector seals somewhere, but also looks like it need to be done by someone with knowledge of these things and how to do them without screwing anything else up!!

Does anyone know an independent Mercedes Specialist in CORNWALL !

Sorry I also meant to add that there is a slight ticking noise (at idle) from around the area where the dipstick is, could this also be connected to a injector seal or maybe a manifold leak causing them smell in the cabin.

The back arrow
looks like something should be on the end of this connection

The Yellow arrow is pointing to an area where it is wet, and is also where the smell is coming from, you can also see some sort of exhaust smoke
(very small amount) but obviously enough to seep into cabin area.

I had similar on my old E Class which was, indeed, a leaking injector. The fumes get pulled into the cabin through the air vent in front of the windscreen. If you pull off the big plastic engine cover, start the engine and with your head under the bonnet, listen around the area you think the noise is coming from. If you can hear a 'chuffing' or ticking noise, then it is almost certainly a leaking injector seal.
On my own car, you couldn't hear the noise too clearly with the plastic cover in place, but with it off, the noise is very obvious.
Depending how long it has been leaking, they can be absolute buggers to remove, so I would definitely leave it to a specialist.

Cheers for the reply "Lotiman"
I am going to take it to an indy tomorrow so they can look at it, i will have the warranty details with me so they can sort out getting it fixed or at least get it booked in to do it.
I am very suprised that a newish car would fail there so quick !!
