Evening all.

So, I’ve changed the PCV but there is still oil present at the turbo inlet, and car smokes a little on boost.(so I’m told, from car behind)

my thinking is to fit a oil catch can to prevent this.

is this the way forwards?

Has anyone fitted one else fitted one? and can recommend a supplier please?

thanks

I did fit one to my E class a few years ago .
I doubt though that the smoke would be fixed by a catch can , it’s more likely to be another issue .
Even a new pcv tube allows some oil through to the turbo , that’s its purpose .
This was the thread on the t’other side

Yep agreed.....the tiny amount you usually get in a catch can would not usually cause blue smoke.....just gunge up EGR valves and intake manifolds when mixed with hot exhaust fumes.....still worth doing ....but I doubt thats your problem.

Thanks for replies
I’m going to replace the turbo inlet seal, boost pipe seals and also install a catch can(temporary/permenant) to visibly see how much oil and condensate is actual entering the engine. I was considering replacing the seals after the resonator, but don’t know if it’s a big job or not?? I will take a good look along the boost system.

Do you mean the seals in the inlet and outlet pipes to the intercooler? I changed the hoses on mine as they go soft with time. The seals are available separately from mb I think. The o rings on either end of the turbo outlet pipe are favourite too. As others have said though you may be chasing another issue.

Take care with getting a catch can that works for a diesel , you need bigger/wider connections on the can than a petrol engine .

I’ve gone for a 15mm bore one, is that big enough?
