Now then.

I assume something like this has been done here before so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Yonder 230CE has head gasket issues.

I have acquired a lovely great V8 lump from a 1980 450SL with FSH but without fuel injection Gubbins.

There seems to be a lot of unused space under the bonnet.

I know, brakes, suspension blah blah etc and I can get the gearbox too....

Any thoughts about a bit of a 124 sleeper?

I was originally going to turn the block into a wine cooler cum coffee table but I reckon it would probably be a waste of a good engine when a scrap one would do.

What dus' t' reckon?

Very nice as is there something about starters on the driver sides. You should be able to get engine mounts made handy but have a look at m-bv8conversions

Not going to be much of a sleeper ?

1980 450 engine is circa 200bhp ?

Just buy a 3.2 or a 300-24 and have another 30bhp on top of that without all the aggro ? :dk:

Nothing worse than a v8 powered car that sounds great but doesn't perform

IIRC it's about 220bhp, 350ish nm of torque and very very thirsty. It should fit with mods (the 5 litre M117 was fitted to the 500e), you'll need an appropriate diff which will fit rear W124 driveshafts and the rear subframe and a propshaft that will fit W124 and has the larger V8 flanges, plus all the stuff you know you need. It will weigh a decent amount more too, think of effect on handling as much as on engine mounts etc.

I'm planning to fit a later V8 into my W114 coupe - I'm not sure I see the point of fitting an earlier V8 other than the fun of doing it.

Hmmm, good point chaps. Seems a lot of hassle for a shade over 200 horses :( the septics have a lot to answer for.

Coffee table it is then, unless someone wants to buy a good 450 lump lest it gets hacked about in the name of interior decoration?

Spec says 147kw , which is just a shade under 200bhp

Must agree with the other comments. If you're doing a V8 I'd opt for a M117 5.0 or better again a 5.6 for 300BHP and loads of torque (no weight saving concerns :D ) In for a penny in for a pound and ironically I'd imagine fitting either of those won't cost anymore than fitting the older 450. Whatever you do decide it's going to be a lot of time consuming work, never mind expense. Rock on! :thumb:

Didn't realise the 300 24 valve motor ran at 220bhp, ideal! I thought it had 180ish for some reason.

Here you go Gunning as I have the figures to hand.
