Ok, I can enlighten my answer bit more, usually hunting idle at cold happens when injectors are leaking too much, or fuel lines (certain engines) draw air in. But we must know car type and age etc.

not 100% about just at night but will try in morning as might need use it then so more info to come its 2005 270 cdi got history from local garage not fully m.b 120k miles one owner jeep so they said..
its had injecter leak since day 1 chuff chuff ...always started was sat for year or so but fine so i used it tuesday no problems 3 hour drive then next day started fine revs fine but real bad lumpy idle shaking abt to cut out ..but since then when i started it few times cold to see its been way better then will idle lumpy but has idled 99% fine so intermittent as they say also the air mass plug with it in or not plugged in theres no diffrence or no dash lights come on revs same .. have not drove it up to temp yet but any ideas guys...
