1- How do I open the engine cover on a C43?... The black cover that says ///AMG on it? I want to have a look at the engine rocker covers but can't work out how to get the black plastic manifold off...

2- My oil temp seems to be around 95 when driving around - is this normal?

3- How often should I expect to be adding oil when driving in town? I
found after doing a 400 mile round trip I needed to add another 2 litres.

Any help much appreciated.

1. Pull it up firmly at the back
2. Oil temp? There is no such guage
3. MB say 1l/1000KM is aceptable. What oil are you using?

2) water temp is fine at 95
3) are you saying you topped it up before the 400 mile stint too? if so then you have an issue.

Oil temp is fine as other have said.

Oil levels, firstly make sure you check it at the same time when you are looking for variations. So maybe in the morning on a perfectly flat surface.

Then, don't just fill it to the max mark all the time, wait for it to get closer to min. Log how much you use.

I was worried for a few weeks on the 500E and now it doesn't use any at all. I was always trying to have it at the max mark where it would burn a litre of oil in 2 tanks of fuel. But it naturally wants to settle at around 2/3rds up the dipstick and hasn't budged in 20,000 km whether it be before or after oil changes, I still top it up to 2/3rds.

Yours may have a problem or it may just be how the engine wants to run.

Dave!

There is a leak somewhere unless you are driving beyond 80mph all the time.

Oil are not supposed burned off but will be nearer renewable time after 9K miles. The loss will be about a litre.

Make sure you use the Merc recommended. I always used Castrol GTX and if I can afford Mobil synthetic. Cheapest to get Castrol is Tesco or ASDA.

If your car has been serviced by MB it will be Mobil 1 oil for your engine.

I have a small oil leak (Head gasket) but its so small that even after 5000 miles, its not needed topping up.

95 is normal

Thanks to all for responses.

Ok, if that's the water gauge then fine (the one on the left). I had oil leaking from the rocker covers, but these were fixed by sealing them with silicone according to my garage. Now I want to remove the engine cover to see what it looks like following their work, as that could be the cause of excessive oil consumption. Have always used Mobil 1 oil.
