i'v just aquired my first merc (89 300se) and it runs like a dream except when it's warm and it's idling it feels like it's to low (normally around the 6-700 mark) and feels a little lumpy but as soon as it is about 1k it's fine....is there something wrong or does it just need the idle picking up? if so how do i go about adjusting it?
cheers for any help
I.

Hi and welcome bone. Have you serviced it recently. If not I would suggest that you do, it may just clear out the system and allow the engine to breath easier.

the air filter looks new but i'll stick some plugs in it at the weekend....cheers for your help fella.

You may also want to clean the throttle body, that is a possible culprit of rough/irratic idling. You need to either get to the throttle body's butterfly valve or remove the whole throttle body and clean it with a carb cleaner, you'll see the muck come off and allow for a smoother movement. This helped in my case.
