New cars have new issues.
Bought a GLB in 2020 and while driving it felt weird at times, I really never suspected the 4 wheel drive to not work, especially as the dashboard was clearly showing power distributed between the front and back wheels when driving.
Then, on the first snow, my GLB was not able to drive in a simple street going up with the front wheels moving but the back ones not.
This was the clear evidence that indeed, something was really wrong.
Got more tests, including fast acceleration and again, dashboard claimed back wheels were working but they actually did not and the front wheels with such test would make terrible noise trying to pull the car with the back wheels not doing any help.
Went to the authorized mercedes dealership who first told me "how do you even know that the 4 wheel drive is not working", then they check the dashboard and told me to see that it is working as the dashboard is claiming it does.
I then explained all the test I did and why despite the dashboard claim, it was clearly not working.
They took the car for checking and indeed, confirmed that the 4 wheel drive was not functioning and only the 2 front wheels were doing the traction.
They had to call germany to understand what was going on.
Explanation given was that some software module that passes the message to the back wheels had some issues and therefore the back wheels refused to work with the front wheels and simply became passive.
Mercedes had to patch the software to make the module work with each other properly so that the back wheels would not refuse the commands and it then worked properly, for few months, and until a new software update erased the patch so I am today again as a new dealer.to get the patch installed again but I am pretty sure many other car have this issue like mine, just drivers are not aware.of it unless they really need the 4 wheels to work like 4 wheel drive, and then will discover they have the same issue.
Maybe just a GLB problem?
Anyway, check it before you need them as you could really get in trouble to find out about this at the wrong time.
Cheers,
Patrick
