Just spent a couple of hours sweating in the heat under the car . Front wheels on wheel ramps (drive is sloped so it sort of makes the gearbox level ) .
I had bought a Febi filter and sump gasket kit for £10 ish recently , I was going to save it for a while but there wasn’t much wind today so I thought better in the car than in the garage . I have 8L of Fuchs 236.14 on the shelf as well .
Last ATF and filter change was @79k and 3 years ago ….now on 97k . I actually change the sump ATF yearly with a Pela pump anyway so this wasn’t too excessive for me . I did change the gearbox electrical connection last year so actually missed my normal ATF change anyway .
Much easier than the 7g to change and I’d done it a couple or so times before ,so no stress involved .

The sump tray is with magnets removed and before cleaning , no metal horrors were spotted .

I will check the level in a couple of days , I just replaced the 3L of atf I drained out

Jobs a good un! 👍
When I first got my Coupe (about 2 Years ago), I went for a full flush (the stuff that came out was clearly the original & was very dark brown in colour) which I was real happy to complete (after using about 25 litres of oil) & ended up with with nice fresh cherry red oil in the gearbox which worked much more smoothly afterwards.
Jump forward to about 2 months ago, was just about to go for an MOT & decided to finally heed the 'Top up Coolant' warning on the dash. Take off filler cap, Lo & Behold......... Strawberry milkshake of death in side!:eek: NOT a happy bunny. Gearbox oil & coolant totally mixed together after cooler failure.
Its taken many flushes of the engine to get all traces of it out (I used a strong mix of dishwasher powder in the water) and a final few clean water flushes to be sure - reckon my cooling system is as good as new now! Just have to put the nrew radiator in to finish.
I'm currently in the process of changing the gearbox for a good 2nd hand one (the clutches in the existing original one have basically dissolved) but not till I've fitted a new conductor plate & tested all the solenoids first. I'll do a write up about it once car is going again.

Just done a 20 minute drive , level checked and 0.5L added . That’s it for another year .
Ive got the E class 7g box to do now :)

How difficult is it to do the 7g mate, from what I've read refilling oil is the tricky bit.

It’s ok if you set aside 2-3 hours as a diy’er . I’ve done it twice before . The refilling bit I use a cheap transfer pump from eBay with a turn off valve plumbing fitting which connects to the screw in attachment that goes into the sump plug hole . I’ll see if I can find a picture .
You just need to pump in 4L , turn off the valve to trap the ATF in the sump , run the car through the gears , wait until the gearbox temp is up to 80 degrees I think ( using an icarsoft ) , then release the valve below the sump until all excess fluid slows to a trickle , then quickly fit the sump plug .
This thread was my first go a few years ago

What screwthread is the sump plug where you filled the new oil, just trying to figure out what fittings I would need. I have a small 12v pump which I sometimes use for draining oil after a good clean no reason why I couldn't use it to fill oil.

Thankyou and good write up in 2019. I would probably use an infa red thermometer as I don't own an icarsoft. My fluid was done a couple of years back so I'm not in a rush but if and when I decide to do the job will keep you posted.
Next project is new springs and shocks all round, awaiting Autodoc delivery, I really can't work out if it is wise doing it in this heat as the unit I'm going to be using has glass in the roof and is warm anyways. 😊

Cheers buddy .
You could wait until winter if it’s too hot now ;)
Good luck with it all .

CORRECTION …..to the 7g gearbox temperature it’s 45c ! (I was mixing it up the 80c temp that the 5g is checked hot on the dipstick )

I’m beginning to suspect mental issues
