63 AMG engine differences

The engine is designated DE 55LA as well as the .984 and .982 (amongst others). This is from the EPC for the very poorly engine in the G63 from the VIN

and this is the same details from the GLE engine on eBay that quotes the VIN of the car it has come from, a .982 engine but still DE 55 LA

I've also seen the one at £3,220 where the text of the ad says it's £7k plus the old engine posted by someone with a feedback score of 4 (from things he's bought rather than sold). I did consider doing a Buy-It-Now at that price but saying I'd pay by bank transfer on collection but figured it would probably be a waste of fuel to go to collect something that either isn't as described or doesn't even exist. Especially as it seems to be using the same photo as this one...... 2015 Mercedes Benz C218 X218 CLS63 AMG 5.5 Engine Enigne M157 157,981 | eBay

Just to finish off this thread and I would like to thank everyone for the help and information, I now know a lot more about these engines than I did before. My friend is in France and was put in touch with an expert on these engines by the Mercedes main agent the car had been taken to. He checked it over and declared that he could rebuild it, not cheap but around half the price Merc wanted for a replacement engine. He has now done it, the compression on all cylinders is identical and it runs perfectly. He concluded that the damage had been caused initially by sand getting into the engine when in Quatar as everywhere under the bonnet was covered in very fine sand (at least where it couldn't be seen as it seemed obvious the engine bay had been pressure washed to make it look clean). It is almost certain that sand had somehow got sucked into the engine and caused the scoring on the bores.
