6in satnav

The scree will be crap, just look at how bright it is in the picture...

Now think how well you will see that with the sun coming down on it.

Buy the Mio 7" nav TV if you want a big screen.

I think it's far from a forgone conclusion that it will be rubbish just because it comes from China. China has really stepped up its game in recent years and is now producing goods at a quality at least on par with the west and in some cases much better. Many manufacturers now outsource their goods from China although you'd never know because the Chinese don't care if says made in China or not.

The poor photo could easily be just that, a poor photo.

Bottom line, it could well be a very good product but unfortunately there's only one way to find out.

Regards,

Well I have ordered 5 of them from China as I wanted to put them in the flip up housing on a 1 series, and all were completely useless. No auto brightness, not light sensor, and during anything but the dullest of days really hard to see.

Considering you can buy a Navigon for £79 and hack it to run the very latest software I can't see the point of these cheap Chinese things.

large satnav

As its for the tintop i need a bright screen and a good volume when i have the roof down.

Ive my eye on a mio v735 or a garmin 1690.Has any one got either of these ??

Would it be possible to pump the sound through a small amp and speaker or the radio as i cant hear the instructions with the roof down.

I dont want to go the inbuilt type route as its sure to get stolen.

What portable sat nav do you folks reccomend for a convertable ?

I have a V735 and it is pretty good, however, some of the routes it chooses are a bit pants, no worse than Garmin, but still a bit odd.
I just don't like Garmins routing alogrythms, so I would never buy one, not for the UK anyway, in Europe and the States they seem fine, in fact really good, but here?? terrible.

Unfortunately I cracked the screen on my Mio V735, but if you do get one let me know and you can have all the accessories for it, like charger and cradle etc. so you can keep them in a second car.

I wouldn't bother wiring them in to the car, you will need it constantly on the aux input to hear them.
You could look at the Pioneer AVIC F500BT, this comes with an active bracket and mutes the stereo when you get nav instructions, it is also a nice big 6" screen and it has a Parrot Bluetooth system built in as well, which works really well.

This is it fitted to our 123d..

In the end though I put a Sony Nav-U in the OEM pop up housing....

I wouldn't buy a Mio over say a Navigon. As I said, the routing is a bit suspect.
Sure if you want TV and a 7" screen then the V705 is worth considering, but the 5"?? I'm not so sure.

I presume you mean the new D class Mercedes (that was meant to be a secret) with the 1.23 litre engine, the D123 Blue-Effluency ?

Joking aside that looks like a nice job - and as absolutely hate the Satnav in my wife's X5 its an even better solution to that slug response BMW iDrive system

I had iDrive in my 535d and the 335i, the 535d system was slow but the 335i one was fine, however, they are both the same unit so not sure why?!
One was 2005 and the other 2007 so they may have quietly upgraded it? Not sure.

I actually loved the routing on the BMW nav system, and actually liked the system due to all the shortcuts etc. but a pain to learn.

I do like the NTG2.5 though, really good system, not spent long enough with the new one in the W212 to know if it is as good or not??
