Hi, I have booked my c class c204 in with Mercedes for it's first gearbox flush at 9 years and 49k kilometers, having asked both an independent specialist and an automatic transmission service center for their opinion on whether or not to service it at the Mercedes recommended interval of 5 years or 60k kilometers they both advised me not to waste my money and go a few more years before the service reasoning that a car with low mileage, always garaged never used to tow could easily cope with a delayed interval.
However now at 9 years I have decided to have the work done, when I booked it in I asked the service advisor to flush out the torque convertor as well, they told me that they normally wouldn't do this unless, as with me the customer specifically requests it as it adds an extra 6 or 7 liters of ATF to the invoice. It seems to me it only makes sense to do this rather than mixing old ATF with fresh. I was wondering what other members opinion of this type of gearbox service would be.

To me it makes sense to flush the torque converter at the same time. Fresh clean ATF fluid can only be good for the very complicated gearbox and help keep the torque converter happy to.

I would want my car to have clean fluids all round, if nothing else its preventative maintenance and money well spent.

There is a very good chance your Torque Converter has a drain plug on it, simplifying the whole process , but be aware I don't think the use of extra ATF is the issue here (they will simply bill you for that)... it's time .

If they have decided that the car will be on the lift for 90 minutes (for example) to 'service' the transmission and have quoted such , or have only one or two lifts your request for almost double that time on the lift changes things for them . Just bear that in mind.

I am sure you have by now viewed various videos on YouTube on how this process works including disconnecting the ATF cooling circuit and drawing fresh fluid through it manually.

What you have asked them to do is quite reasonable but just be aware that it is far more (in their eyes) than just the dropping of the sump and fluid & filter change.

Let us know how you get on. 👍

A 9 years old W204 will be an early 2014 model and will have a drain plug on the torque converter of the 7G+ transmission.

A Merc specialist should charge you for the job and change all the ATF anyway.
MB will just bill you for any extra oil and time , I’m guessing this will cost a lot with them . What did MB quote ?

They quoted me 500 euros including a brake fluid flush which is also due, I've had quotes of around 400 from other automatic transmission specialists. I had a 2009 c180 Kompressor estate prior to my coupe which had the 5g tronic autobox and when the gearbox was serviced at Mercedes at 5 years it cost about 250 euros at that time but I doubt they flushed the torque convertor.

If you plan to keep the car and are unable to do it yourself € 500 for a MB dealership transmission service and brake fluid change sounds about right.
