I have come to breaking point and hope somebody can recommend a any transmission specialist near North London. My car went in to limp mode (stuck in first & reverse only) I had indie garage change ATM & filter. But car still in limp mode. Took car to star diagnostics at another indie garage it showed 4 x solenoid valves needed changing. So we order 4 valves from mercs & fit them in, at first gear change from 1 to 2 was hard but smoothed out over 6 hours drive. The next day I was back to limp mode from cold. Went back to garage star diagnoses shows all is OK, and no other problems shown. Now it only drives in limp mode gear 1 or if switch off and on again engages in gear 6, so barely drivable. Please can anyone offer some advise or guidance besides taking to main dealer?:fail:fail

Sounds like it needs the gear selection values setting with a star, so it knows when to change at what rpm

tried that several times but after cooling it throws back into limp. Although cal aberrations we're reset.

Unfortunately, sounds like the issue I had a couple months ago. You are likely to need a new valve body with a conductor plate. Part in UK is about 500 notes, 4-6L of gearbox oil and a few hours labour inclusive of STAR coding....All in all, should get your wallet lighter for about 1200-1500 coins with HRH QEII's portrait ...

I found a garage (merc approved) that say they have a repair kit for this problem and will supply and fit for £500.
Has anyone any experience with these repair kits?

got it fixed with a repair kit £350 + oil + filters + coding £700. I should have come here first.

Good to see you got it sorted:-)...which garage did you use?
I used a garage in Hainault Essex . Motoraid Forest Road Hainault. not the cheapest but got the job done, I've learnt my lesson about what you get when you pay peanuts.

What kit is it that sorted it?

Anyone got a faulty electric plate with the speed sensors on for a 722.9 box ?
I would love to have a good look at one before I strip my valve body out.
Needless to say Im having turbine speed sensor issues.
PM or text me, will pay postage

I think the "kit" Nightdriver had fitted would be the "electric plate" that houses the two gearbox internal speed sensors and the gearbox ECU.
It seems they count the revolutions on the input and output speeds of the gearbox, if one of the sensors miss reads then the ECU goes into fault. Error codes would be 0717 and 0718 both turbine speed sensor either missing a beat or failing completely.
No drive from standstill, Hunting at cruising speed and holding in gear / not changing up are all symptoms.
Ignition on off should reset the ECU but problem will only get worse, can lead to no gear selection at all !
This is a very common fault on these boxes.
Board can be sent away for repair or a new MB board fitted, but this would need the ECU re coding to the car by MB. Own repaired would not need this.
No amount of gearbox oil and filter changes will stop this happening.

This kit is the gearbox ecu basically , just like the conductor plate on the 722.6 but on the 722.9 it comes with the ecu , it's called a repair kit as you never used to be able to buy this on its own , you used to have to buy the complete valve body .
It has to be coded thats the downside as it needs to be scn coded by a dealer or specialist that has this facility

now it seems my torque is gone.
