My 1996 W202 C200 has a problem is that shut down after engine is hot. Engine only shut down when the car was stopped or prepare to stop. Everytime the engine has shut down and I can restart the engine immediatey. Today I took my car to garage and check with computer. Below error code was displayed.

(27) 070 = TN signal output (rpm signal) short to ground

What does this code mean? Which part I need to replace?

I felt harassed by this problem that I cannot find the source.
Many parts I have replaced such as Electronic Throttle and Fuel Pump.

Can you give me some advise? Thank you very much.

does it happen all the time,my c200 95 had the same problem, when the car was hot it would just shut down, and i could start it back up no problem,i changed my fuel pump and fuel filter, and regeneration valve, and it hasnt happened since,so since you changed the fuel pump, try the regeneration valve, its beside the window washer bottle it has two hoses on it one coming from the throttle body, just follow the hose coming from the throttle body,as for the codes i havent a clue what it is,im sure somebody will know what it means,

Not being a mecchanic, but the code does imply that your throttle cable is shorting to ground (-ve) (i.e. "touching" the bare chassis) somewhere.

I would be looking for a frayed cable or a bit of loose shielding. Given that your engine dies, somewhere between the RPM probe and the ECU....

Given that it happens when it's hot, this sounds like it's actually very close to touching and as the metal expands it ends up closing the circuit.

I'm sure someone can be more specific than me though...

hi

Have you had the loom replaced? the first batch of w 202 had a eco friendly loom that should degrade it self after some years and unfortunately it degrades while car still in good condition. if original loom is still fitted get it checked/replaced

good luck

Cheers

Abby
