99 C Class Alarm

Can any help me please.

I had a rotten nights sleep last night because the factory remote alarm on my dear old 1999 C200 Elegance went off three times. It has done this in the past and now I don't usually bother locking/alarming the car over night as we live in a quiet part of town and it sits on the drive, however my wife used it last night and naturally locks the car when she leaves it.

Sorry for rambling on, but does anyone know if there is a not to difficult way of disabling the alarm whilst keeping the very useful remote locking. It has the dash button that I believe turns of the movement sensors but I am looking for a more semi permanent solution if possible…. ie a fuse.

Many thanks.

Under the bonnet where the alarm siren usually is there may be a keyhole on the siren for a round type key, if not there, it may be under the steering wheel just above the drivers knees or in the glove box. If you have a key to fit this it will turn the alarm off, will not affect the central locking.

Regarding the alarm fault, if vacuum or a check or spiders don’t solve the problem, check the bonnet alarm switch that it is not loose and the door and boot switches also. Are all the doors closing in properly?

just turn the alarm off. using the black key or is it the red one?
under the steering wheel or in the glove compartment

C Class's dont have the red black thing... the only thing you can do is remove the alarm part of the system which could be expensive..

what are you on about mate?
I have the red and black plug key thing on mine. and the alarm keyhole is a little socket above my right knee in the footwell.

on a w202? Must be something the dealer put in or after market...

only car that was standard on was the A class and that was only in the UK..

do you want to see the pictures?
how can you have after market mercedes alarm.
after market means away from the manufacturer

i know what the look like, little prongs with three contacts on them...

and you definately definately would not have it on a 99 as thats uses the later style alarm system with Electronic Key..

ok so someone has put an immobiliser on afterwards...

A class's had them fitted for some silly reason that escapes me now.. initially they were fitted by dealers like they used to do with the old scorpion systems back in the 80's, but later they became a standard thing..

ok then mine is not a 99. i guess the OP has a 99 so may not work on his then.
the immobiliser was standard and only the key turns that off.
no one put anything afterwards.

i have put my own alarm and siren in now as i did not like the MB one.

Many thanks....

I have no red/black circular keys and no sign of any key holes anywhere as it has a factory fitted alarm.

So sign either of a separate alarm siren so I guess it uses the car horn which will prevent me disconnecting that.

Because the alarm is factory fitted I actually don't know where the interior sensors are. They are presumably concealed in the trim.

Is there any fuse that could be removed as I really don't want or need an alarm, just the convenience of remote locking.

Thanks guys for your help.

It is likley you do have a siren, just trigger the alarm by holding down the switch pin under bonnet or the door switch pin and lock the car, wait 10 seconds and take your finger off the pin when alarm sounds you will be able to locate the siren.

My C280 is also a 1999 and I was REGULARLY having the same problems as you (middle of the night).
STAR revealed that the interior sensors had been triggered on each occassion. It varied between left and right sensors.

I gave the car a good clean out and vacuumed everything inside the car - sensors, vents, carpets, seats, parcel shelf (basically, anywhere I could get the nozzle).

Haven't had a false alarm since (touch wood) and that was about three months ago. (Hope I haven't just tempted fate!!)

So in the words of the Wolf from Pulp Fiction, "Pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the 'effin' car!!" :D
