Hi. New to site and my car which has a 725/ 9 geartronic gearbox according to dealer!
Only been driving it a few days but not seen the gear get up into 8th or 9th gear? Am I not going fast enough? Is there differing parameters needed for the car to do this? Only managed to get it up to 7th gear. Please advise. Regards

Hmm, not sure the 9g gearbox even existed in 2011, I think it appeared much later. (on further reflection, don't think it was ever fitted to an A class either)

If it's got flappy paddles, manually put it into 9th. Afaik the 9g only went into the e class in the early years of its release.

The car is a w166 250d
The paddles won't take it to 8th or 9th. I've tried it

You not got 9g then. Probably 7g+

Ok. But checked with MB dealer giving reg and they confirmed 9g box fitted! Gearbox Serviced at MB yesterday. Silly money blue oil Etc They also said top gears don't come into play until 80mph ish when crusing! Posted this thread as I thought it could be BS! It's an AMG line on a 2018 plate 250d

Some BS they fed you there then. 8th and 9th come into play for me sometimes at 65 mph depending on conditions like engine temps etc.

You can use an online data card checker using the vin number, that'll tell you if it's 9g . 8th and 9th will come using the paddles for certain if it had them.

The gle should have 9g .

Thanks . I will check in morning using the VIN. It does have paddles. It is a GLE.

Hi. Yes the vin checker says 9g. I will get on the motorway and give it a burn. Regards

Just remember, the harder you drive, the longer it holds onto lower gears, you need to go easy on the throttle and it should change up sooner at mway speeds

Should really have 9G on the GLE - Dont think any of them came with a 7 speed

Put the car into Eco and drive it, should be going into 9th gear at 70mph tbh

Don't these adapt to previous driving style, in which case, assuming the OP has only recently had the car, perhaps the previous owner drove it in a different manner, and it will eventually re-learn the new style?

On both of our cars its is virtually impossible to get into 9th at the UK posted limit of 70mph. I can get mine into 9th at 120kph (74mph) but its not happy. At 123kph then it will sit in 9th as long as the road is flat). 8th is 102kph ish (again depending on headwind or levelness of the road. All of this is with the car in Eco.

Worth resetting the box every 6 months I think. The op does state even using the paddles he doesn't see 8th or 9th ,which I find very strange.

Yep. I get it. Got it briefly into 8th today! Learnt behaviour from previous owner! Box reset procedure maybe required? Thanks for help. Regards
