The new saloon version now appears on the MB website , but not yet on the configurator. Prices from £27,895 whaaaaaaaat !!

I guess it’s competing with the A3 saloon but then I thought that’s what the CLA is for?

I’m likely missing something here though as I’m not up on the very latest models. :)

In terms of body type, the CLA is the equivalent of the CLS.

The A-Class Slaoon will be the body-type equivalent of the C, E, and S.

Classic Mercedes marketing. One wonders if this an attempt to move the entire model range upmarket. The C class "grew" in size when it became the W205 from the W204. Is this subcompact class based saloon due to replace it as Mercedes small "entry level " saloon. If it succeeds expect to see a corresponding upward price "adjustment " in the C/E class models. I suspect also these A class FWD / Dual clutch platform cars are cheaper to make than their larger RWD platform bretheren and thus possibly more profitable for that reason. ;)
OR -it may simply be an attempt "niche match" Audi as already suggested OR - its a Chinese market "spinoff" model since this model appears to have been targeted at that market first. :dk:

I don't really see there being a market for the A saloon and CLA - the CLA was always a few £k more than the A and it looks like they will be at a similar price point, for now at least.
The A3 saloon seems to have been quite successful, I see a fair few on the road but I rarely see a CLA.

It’s more practical than the CLA, with a much higher roof line in the rear, having sat in the saloon back in April. It also allows the next gen CLA to be even more sporty in styling than before

There certainly is. The C Saloon has grown so much over the years, I often hate customers asking if we sell anything smaller. The CLA is seen as too sporty and hard to get into my a lot of those people.

Personally I love the styling of the saloon and would opt for one over the hatch

Had a courtesy car A class whilst muy one was in service. Driven "old" A and difference is huge between "old" and "new", just to remind you gentlemens they streched and wided new A and fitted that panel and other bits, it really impresses, but i won`t buy it new for that money - simple as that... approved used - yes!

And especially with butterfly back lights you won`t see a lot... that`s why I bought AMG line having diesel engine... yes yes it`s euro 6...

But CLA in not perfect, but it`s not the worst. Appearance more fixes owners mentality than actual practicality

Very confused, does this replace the CLA?

No, the CLA is being revealed at CES in January. The A Class saloon is more practical with a higher roof line
