A160 clock/trip

Hi all we have just purchased a 1998 merc A160 semi auto the only problem we have is when we first turn the ignition on the service light comes on, we cannot reset it as the four buttons dont seem to work, we cannot change the outside temp to clock or the trip recorder or any other function does the system need to be reset by mb any help or pointer much appreciated
