A35 AMG written off after engine management came on due to lack of compression in one cylinder The car is only just out of warranty and has only 23500 miles. this should never have happened in a car like this, Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Shocking!
To write off the car as well seems such a waste.
Have you enquired about Mercedes supplying and fitting a replacement engine?
That shouldn't happen in such a low mileage car.

If Mercedes won't play ball, how about removing the ancillaries on your car and fitting this?
Got to be better than writing it off.

M260 Engine.

Class action law suit in America, same engine in A250.

We have one in the workshop, leaking exhaust valve/seat on one cylinder. Exhaust valves/head on BO for a few months. Expecting them next month at some point.

Pretty rubbish really.

What do you mean by written off? By you, your insurer, Mercedes Benz or someone else?

Small engine size / high power output.

Failure is somewhat unsurprising given how highly stressed these power plants must be?

Honestly, prefer the proven and tested engines M113K / M156 / M157

Thanks for that, I'll have a look

Specialist recommended writing it off due to the cost of replacing the engine. Still looking for other options though.
Surely an engine can be rebuilt at a cost far less than 25k which is what the cheapest on auto trader currently is. A rebuild with fully forged and race components was 5k when I used to run imprezas, what am I missing here?

I'm no expert so only going on the recommendation of the specialist garage, I've tried others local to me too with no luck. I'd be willing to go further afield if help was out there

Have you approached Mercedes to ask them to look in to this?

The warranty is not a point of legal argument here.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is what you need to use argue your case. There is a clear expectation that expensive items such as cars should have a life expectancy of far greater than three and a half years.

I am assuming the car was serviced correctly and has not been modified in any way?

I've written to them on Friday, I'll hopefully get a reply at the beginning of the week, fingers crossed. Yes its been serviced and no Mods. We contacted a local dealership and they weren't interested.

Where in Scotland are you located Weealan??

Which local dealership?

Hi weelan , well this is German engineering at its best !

I would have thought that Mercedes would have wanted to inspect this engine to find out the problem.( Unless they are aware of the issue )

You pay a large amount of money for a modern car and after three years it could be written off. Hardly a car manufacture who has confidence in the product they produce and take to market.

All the best in your quest for a sensible conclusion.

Try a tweet aimed at MBUK. nothing like a public shaming to get a big corps attention & get the ball rolling. 👍

Is it wise to antagonise someone whose help you are seeking? The OP has contacted Mercedes, best wait and see what transpires.
