C63 AMG estate
Just got back from a test drive in A45 AMG, I must say I am a bit disappointed, I really wanted to like it, it's fine and quick enough when pressing on but that's not everything is it, well certainly not for me, it's not a car that I would be proud to own, getting back into my C63 and the world is fine again.

Exhaust (standard) noise not good a 'bit boy racer-ish' pops and bangs on the over run I could put up with, seats nowhere near as good as the C63, visability sort of OK but the thick B and C pillars not to my liking, the display screen stuck onto the dash, horrible, I was expecting the gearbox to be a huge improvement on the C63's, it was better but not by much, still a slight delay in changing when in manual, maybe I was expecting too much after reading all the reports

On the plus side, engine was smooth and it handled well on the 'twisty bits' and was certainly quick enough but overall not a car for me.

I agree, when I test drove one it felt very mild compared to the C63... However I feel if you were 'trading up' or this was your first entry to the AMG Marque I think it would be a different story.

It is a very capable car, and huge potential.....

I have one on order, due in September. Ok, it doesn't have the deep growling presence of the v8's (obviously) but put it against any of the V8/V12's on a twisty road/track and it will leave them for dead. It is so quiet on the road you do not realise just how quick you are going and it will save time on longer journeys requiring fewer fuel stops. You can probably tell am looking forward to it! I found the seats superb and the interior, whilst a little bling, innovative....time will tell.

AMG targeting a new market with this car, rather than trying to attract existing AMG owners to it, is as I see it...

Depends what you're coming to it from as to whether it appeals as an ownership proposition or not I reckon :)

Therein lies a major problem for me, it's too quiet to provide a sense of occastion. Everytime I turn the ignition on my C63 it gives me a large smile.

Don't get me wrong, I lreally ove the A45 but I think it was a mistake to use such a muted engine such as a 2 litre and think they should have made a spectacular 3 litre 6 cylinder.

Still, the A45 is improved by ticking the Performance Exhaust option box, I can imagine with a decent remap it would have C63 PPP rivalling performance.

Handling is awesome too.

I completely agree with Phil, this is an entry level car for people who don't know what AMG is really about. The entry level AMG when Mercedes purchased the company was the C36 AMG, and that was only when before Mercedes brought AMG, AMG themselves already created the blue prints for the C36 which in fact was going to be named the C32 or C34, can't remember correctly.

AMG has always been about Straight 6, V8's and V12's. I'd never go to a inline 4. That's my thoughts!!!

Take on for a test drive its a very impressive car, I took one out after a run in a new SL63 and was very impressed with its handling and its speed. For me its does exactly what an AMG should do take a standard Merc and put a mighty engine in with handling to match.

Already working on Exhaust plans for it :-)

Needs another four. ;)

I get the impression it's going to be a bit like my modified Imprezzas were - very quick, great handling, but all a bit frantic. I always thought the Imprezza would be better for an 'automatic' box of some description or another and I guess that's what we have with the A45.

But having made the transition to the effortless life of an AMG V8 some years ago, there is no going back :)

I disagree completely - it's for people who know exactly what AMG stands for - aggressive styling and bling

Like it or not, AMG is now a "Footballer Brand" which is aimed at yoof who want to be obvious

The thunderous V8 engines were one step in the development of the brand. AMG Sport cars with standard engines & trinkets are another.

When the blurb says of AMG Sport Plus, with no hint of irony
But perhaps the defining feature of the cabin is the red contrast stitching on the upholstery, door panels, steering wheel, centre console, arm rest and floor mats
Then you know the brand is not what it used to be

Probably an excellent performer but just the next step in diluting a brand that once was more exclusive and bespoke due to low production numbers :thumb:
