Mercedes A35 or A45 AMG

The C180 Sport was a car I owned back in 1994. The manual gearbox was terrible, clutch hindged on the floor . I traded that car in for an Audi Cabriolet 2.6 V6 in Kingfisher blue after 10 months of Merc ownership. The A35 is my second Merc , it's much better than my last experience. Keep on top of the timing chain case leaking near the head. I remember several visits to my local dealer to tighten the head bolts , its a design fault.

There was no Kingfisher Blue....its official factory name was Pelican Blue after factory mistake confusing one fish eating bird with another... Pelicans of course being white. The UK dealers adopted the Kingfisher name to avoid the obvious "pelicans are white" comments from customers!

I had an A35 for 3 years good performance, the standard seats I did not like.

I have an A45S now with performance seats a lot more comfortable, Power as standard is at a different level to the A35.

Forgot to mention the Americano grille is awesome on the A45S.The standard A35 grille is better on the facelift one, not a fan of the facelift A35 wheels.

I bet there are quite a few people with A35 models that lust after an A45.....and as good as they probably are I cant imagine it happens much the other way around!....so there's your answer!!!
I totally agree and it is the same as owners getting a S3 if they can't afford a RS3. the A45 S is a great car but it is a shame they couldn't have put a lightweight V6 in it to give it a better sound.

It would go head to head with a nice m140i with a 6 pot but I dont think there's enough room in that engine bay to accommodate their V6. I had a 4cyl twin scroll gla45 in 2016, I thought the 4 pot sounded excellent, not only because the cabin had so little insulation so the exhaust was so loud in the cabin, but the comical pops and bangs too were a sheer joy for my inner child to savour. So much so when I initially got my c63s, I was a bit underwhelmed with the whole thing vs the GLA, and i missed the GLA sound a lot initially. They tend to be much lighter than the bigger cars, more nimble too but clearly the v8s come into their own with how they deliver brutal power. The gla 4 pot was pretty tame in comparison

The thing I don't like with most manufacturers now is the artificial exhaust sounds through the sound system. I don't think any of the German 4 cylinder cars have natural sound because they get ever worse with all the new laws.
