ABC again

Thanks,,, I can get that when I come back, but I still do have to depressurise the whole thing.

Just hope that there is nothing else, I will unplug the lead in the morning and have a little play, I do not really see how that stops the whole thing, it still in the highest setting and will not come down.

The snag being that once the ABC lamp has come on (soon after starting) it all locks out, and the switches do nothing

Well, it's an oil temperature sensor, so if it's leaking and reading a high temp then it will shut the system down.

In the morning I will try some resistors in place of the sensor, the other sensors and wires are soaked in oil but I can wash that down.

Trouble is that I have not started to pack yet

Thanks

Just had a thought. yeah, dangerous I know...

This sensor is on the return line so not under pressure, so no need to depressurise the system to change it.

It will have a small leak but...that's all...folks..

I could put the car on axle stands, that would stop the weight of the car loading it

If it's on the return, which it is, then there should be no pressure anyway as it's after the valves.

Always worth chocking the car up though anyway.

Once I could get to it, it was lose and I tightened it and that has stopped the leak but not solved any problem, the car is still up in the air at max setting.

I have a tiny leak coming from one of the valve switches on the valve block, but impossible to do without taking it off.

So when I get back it will be a trip to STAR so thats it for now folks.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Is the system now low on oil causing it to lock out?

I used my last of the bottle today, snag is that the test can only be done in the normal height setting, and I cant lower the car to try, the chances are that there is too much in there now, as it must use more when its on the max height.

At least its drivable on max , though it does not look as sporty as when I first came home with the fault

IIRC you will need the STAR machine to reset everything as the faults will be logged in the ecu which even if the leak is fixed may still not reset, you know you even need the STAR to change the brake fluid in the 230 SL.
Best to do it after your hols Malc go enjoy the sun mate..

The leak could have been incidental, I left the battery off for more than two weeks , has the ECU lost some settings ? I did only mention that the other day and the warning in WIS.

I can drive the OK and it feels normal, anyway my finger nails are now black and fingers looking motor mechanicy

I am going to think about packing instead :D:D

I don't think so, otherwise why would the car have driven Ok to the dealers.

Just go and have a good time on holiday, the car will still be there on your return.

Thanks,, With the intermittent fault the ABC white lamp would come on now and then, a restart cured it and you could drive 1000s of miles without seeing it again.

When I went to the MB dealer the Lamp (white) came on instantly and I did not bother to re start, when the car gets too low the Red warning comes up "stop the car too low" this came up on my return journey, the car rectified itself for 2 mins to allow me to raise it, and its been like that ever since.

I do believe now that there is air in the system. I left the battery off for an hour, re connected and got the car to go up and down.

If this is the case I still have to do something with the valve block that has a tiny leak coming out through the plastic top covers that have the plugs in the ends. its the valve block 250 in the link has two pressure switches one under each round cover (Plastic) its possible that the covers do come off but impossible on the car. the pressure switch must be just lose, like the other one, but will they just replace it or have a look and do it up.

Well it can stay on high while I am away

Just an update.

The car is now running OK with a tiny leak on the valve block (ABC) the chances are that I have some air in the system.

I could just leave it and do a little top up every say 5K miles.

I could ask Ollie if he would take the valve block off and see if the leaking solenoid can be tightened up ( like the temp sensor) the snag is that the plastic top cannot be taken off in situ. It is a 2 hour job to take it off and re fit, but it does need diag equipment to get the air out.

A new valve block is £800 + vat, and for that price I would keep the old one, as £15 worth of fluid would last 5 years
