Last night on the M42 a car versus HGV had left the car stranded across 3 of the 4 lanes just after an exit. No emergency vehicles in attendance at that point (few minutes later ambo and paramedic went past on the opposite carriageway with some distance to travel).

A Police Discovery came off at the exit, no attempt to stop and assist although the accident would have been visible. No blue lights on so presumably not responding to another 'priority' and no-one on the back seat so no prisoner issue.

I thought on the face of it pretty poor, and would have thought they would have stopped, even if only until colleagues are in attendance?

Compared with a stranded vehicle (a W203 no less), on the lane 2 exit from the M1 to the A42, where a passing AA Van had stopped and was using it's flashing lights to protect the occupants presumably waiting for assistance.

4th Emergency Service come good?

I can only think that they were not aware of the incident for some reason.

Maybe it wasn't being driven by an officer.

They could have been on their way to another incident and if had seen it radioed it in. Most cop cars now travel without blues and twos unless absolutely necessary, thats also why they now have a multitude of blues so they can be selective which ones they use. If they had seen it and were available I'm sure they would have stopped

Not enough police available to stop at every incident they see, thank the government.
