Don’t suppose anyone can help, I’ve not driven my car for a few months and last time it was driven was coming home after a service and MOT, the cars been sat on a trickle charger, I took the car out this weekend and as I turned a corner at about 10mph this sign popped up, don’t suppose anyone can help/advise or has had this issue before,

Thanks

There was a recall on some models related to the active curve assist. My car was apparently OK but it later failed, and I had to repair at my own cost. I’d take it to the dealer to have it checked.

Ok thanks for the reply, was it costly ?

Try topping up your fluid in the resevoir. It's CHF11S hydraulic fluid (well it is for the W166 platform).

ok thanks for the advice just checked the Hydraulic fluid level and it’s on the minimum line so it must need a top up, think it’s worth trying topping it up first before I take the Mercedes garage to get stung £200+ diagnostic fee ?

Thanks

Fraser

I’ve never had cause to look at the system, but it does beg the question of where the fluid has gone? :thumb:

I forget the details now but the recall was due to the fluid foaming and the extra volume cause it to leak through breather holes. That overspill then caused a fire risk.

There will always be a diagnostic fee. It may vary a little between dealerships. MB independents will generally be charging less.

Why is it getting "stung"? The diagnostic takes time (labour) and the equipment is expensive to lease and maintain with Mercedes.

Absolutely. Garages have always charged a "diagnostic fee", even before OBD ports and CANbus.
If your car broke and they fixed it, your invoice would state
" investigate noisy wobble sprocket, £10"
"Fix noisy wobble sprocket, £20"
"Supply new quiet wobble sprocket, £15"

I’ll be honest those quiet wobble sprockets were a blooming nightmare. They were always failing, either becoming noisy, starting to run true, or both. Either way it seemed like I was at the motorfactor every Saturday morning buying wobble sprockets, Simoniz Wash’n’ Wax, chamois leather and a fresh Feiu Orange.

After trying the stereos out on display at Halfords? 😅

I remember being dazzled by the array of head units and speakers on display, high in the intense smell of bike tyre rubber! 😀

On a similar tangential (major) thread drift, I remember large Boots stores being big into home computers and computer games in the 1980s, and I remember playing them in Saturdays for what seemed like hours on end!

The same for reading car magazines and books in WHSmith on Saturdays. Reading the same Observer book of cars for hours, every Saturday is at the heart of my passion for cars, and some of my favourite cars of all time.

Ah, but decent wobble sprockets are dynamically balanced to ensure smooth running. Your motor factors must have been selling you inferior statically balanced items.
And you'd have been better off with a Magic Tree than Feu Orange.

Definitely try the fluid first. Add in a good glug and then redip the cap in and out to check for the cold temp level. There are two markings, one with a lower temp abd one with higer (cant remever the temps themselves). Top it up when the car isnt runnung to the marker of the colder temp marker. Keep us posted. Bound tl be worth £15 for 1 litre of fluid to try...

Thanks for everyone’s help and replies this is what the outcome was,

Thanks

It may be worth finding an independent specialist or two and getting some quotes for the repair.
