Hi All,

my 2015 (65) C220d has just developed a fault, the engine management light has come on followed by a message stating 'Engine start not possible in 497 miles'. I have checked the Adblue level and that states 11212 miles on the range.
has anybody had this issue before?

Thanks in advance,

Matty

What makes you think the problem is with the Adblue?
Could it be another engine related function, possibly the DPF?

Ok, have you visually checked the adblue level (is that even possible?) or try adding some adblue?

I added 5 litres and the range within the menu went up but the error message range stayed the same?

How many refil adblue messages popped up before you added more?

There's a dedicated adblue Control unit located behind the bootliner at the side--- it will get its supply from the rear SAM unit ?? via a couple of fuses- might be worth checking out?

I had this message pop up when the car was a mile from the dealership, it was a brand new car with 11 miles on it.

It turned out to be the sensor which needed recalibration.

I have read that you need to put a reasonable amount in the tank and use it a bit before the system resets.

I was told when I bought mine not to ignore the adblue messages for too long otherwise a dealer visit would be required even if it hasn’t actually run out.

Can’t add more than that as it’s been filled when serviced and not had to refil in between.

Thanks, I’ll get a garage to look before I go to Mercedes

Hi all,

I’ve had the car diagnosed and the following codes appeared,
P13E4-00
P1403-00
P204F-96
P13DF-09
Does that help with a diagnosis?

Was that using Mercedes STAR diagnosis?

Pretty self explanatory? You've got a faulty adblue ecu, possibly also another system component.
Personally I'd get an independent Merc specialist, with STAR to confirm exactly what's failed. Only someone experienced with STAR can get down to that level.

Ok thank you

Was there ever any progress update on this fault. Im coming across quite a few of them adblue faults now this winter. Usually because the customers have ran it dry at some point. My findings have been once dry, crystalization at the metering valve (Y129) happens and they get blocked. Then when there is blockage it trips some error codes and then starts the mileage countdown. Complete stripdown of the lines valves and injection nozzels and a good clean out then an adblue fill level adaptation is usually succesfull. I've had 1 where it wasnt succesful. Re-calibration was not possible. It was also not possible wth a STAR diagnostic. This was because the nox sensor was also faulty. They go faulty regularly for a reason. the reason being, oil change and oil filter service has not been done regular enough OR has not been done properly using either cheap rubbish oil or simply running the car a bit dry of oil aswell a dead cert to ruining anything to do with your emmisions system then the customer sais. HEY BUT I JUST GOT IT SERVICED LAST MONTH. Correct oil, decent filter and a complete adblue refill and deleting of error codes is the key to a proper service usually. The adblue is most of the time ignored by any indi garages up my way unfortunately. What do you mean bud by "only somebody experienced with STAR can get down to that level". Would you class this kind of thing as akward complicated faults. Im genuinally asking as I just been finding my way with them systems as the customers came in with the faults. Still a bit of a learning curv with me but the basics of how it all works is quite straight forward once u break down all the diffirent parts of the system.
