Adding parking sensors to W176

A Class A160 AMG Line
Hi there - I recently bought an A Class A160 AMG Line (W176). I mistakenly thought the things that looked like sensors at the front were parking sensors. Seems like I was wrong, there, as they appear to be proximity sensors that flash up a warning on the dash if I’m too close to the car in front.

I wanted to find out what my options were for retrofitting parking sensors (either via Mercedes, or a third party). Can anyone here let me know their thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi

Retrofiiting the original park assist is not normally possible as Mercedes won't let the data-record be updated for that (and is mad money in anywise because the sensors are about £100 each let alone everything else needed). Almost no Mercedes dealers actually do retrofits also.

Aftermarket sensors is perfectly possible - we can do flush fit, with a display etc etc.

Please PM Alfie, or go email [email protected] - send him your VIN number too as it helps us see what is actually on the vehicle

Cheers
Richard

Ahhh - that's interesting information. Thanks, Richard. I didn't realise Mercedes dealers wouldn't normally want to do this (it's a good safety/enhancement feature after all). Anyhow, I will ping an email to the address provided.

Best regards.

So what's the difference between parking sensors and proximity sensors?

Maybe my terminology was incorrect - but when I purchased the car I assumed it had parking sensors. So, if I park near to a wall, it would beep the closer I got to the wall to warn me. My car doesn't have/do that. (Although, I have to say it does have an awesome rear parking camera which comes up on the main display with guide lines, etc.). However, I would have loved parking sensors for the front of the car!

What my car does have are what I called 'proximity' sensors (I'm not sure if that's the right name). They only appear to work when I'm on an A road or the M25, so I guess when I'm traveling above a certain speed. If the proximity sensor detects that I'm too close to the car in front to stop safely, it shows an alert in the display in between the speedo and tacho. It also makes an audible alert. If I brake/pull back/change lane, etc. so there's nothing in front of me, then the alert stops.

Seems weird that the car has this more advanced tech, but not the basic parking sensors. But hey...
