My uncle has bought a 2005 W219 CLS which has the exact audio/nav system as my w211 (sure it’s the NTG2.5 and was also my uncles car) anyway I’ve noticed he does not have the Bluetooth receiver thing in the centre arm rest like mine does so I cannot connect his phone to the system which is something he’d really like to do given he does a lot of long journeys, I honestly thought this would be a standard feature on such a lovely car or am I just not looking in the correct place 😂. If the Bluetooth isn’t there can he buy and add one easy enough? It has an aux but he’s not interested in music it’s purely for his hands free phone usage.

Thanks

According to this thread Telephone Prep was a £430 option

For my CLS55 AMG the Universal Phone Pack was £430 and the Phone Cradle £131.

It was also a costed option on my 2005 E500.

Looking at the 2010 W212 pricelist it seemed to have become a standard feature by this point. But that's also different tech - it doesn't need the plastic-blob-thing in the centre armrest storage cubby.

You say he does not have a UHI in the armrest, does he have the plug ('hot shoe') in there for a UHI to plug into ?

Armrest just has atorage space and a bit for cards or whatever it’s for but no flashing Bluetooth but not does it have any connectors I seen (he’s now 80 miles away so can’t just look again just now)

thanks for the replies though folks was just curious if he could’ve just picked up a Bluetooth receiver and connect it to the stereo but obviously not that simple.

IIRC the NTG 2.5 was later on , around 09 ->.

My 2010 had the 2.5 and it did have BT connectivity for the phone. You can tell the 2.5 as it had a horizontal SD slot on the front above the CD slot.

I’ll need to have a look but my car and my uncles CLS are both 55 plates with standard stereos, both the same dvd/nav systems and all the same phone buttons and such but his doesn’t have the Bluetooth receiver in the armrest like mine

Put your dad's vin into this decoder and you will get the build sheet for his car.

The car will have COMAND NTG2, not NTG2.5.

NTG2 does not have built-in Bluetooth, the Telephony was a separate option (that was fitted in the centre arm rest).

A retrofit of the original MB Telephony option will be prohibitively expensive (and that system is outdated anyway).

The only practical option is an aftermarket Bluetooth device, either a professional one - e.g. Parrot or Fiscon Pro etc - or a cheap-and-cheerful one, e.g. Belkin etc.

Looks like its time for an upgrade , lots of Android units on the market now that come with all modern bells + whistles.

KennyN is right, a 2005 car will have NTG2, not NTG2.5 (unless retrofitted later).

NTG2.5 has built-in Bluetooth, NTG2 does not, which is why cars fitted with NTG2 needed to have the Bluetooth option specified separately.

See if your unit have a small SD-Card slot on top of the CD slot - I'm guessing not, because only NTG2.5 had the SD-Card slot.

Cheers folk I’m new to the merc scene I think I just looked at the first pic I seen and it said something regarding ntg2.5 so just went with it, I also done the vin check weeks ago for both cars just out of curiosity and yes my car states phone and my uncles doesn’t, just wasn’t sure if it could be added but as you say a new aftermarket system will no doubt be the best option for him
