Hi All

Im tempted with the current offers on the C Class coupe and looking at the 220d or 250d, is it worth spending the extra £1k for the 250?

Also in terms of options are there any deemed 'essential' I would be going for the auto but not sure about the leather as it seems expensive option (would prob need heated seats as well) but if not specified would it be difficult to sell later.

Also is it worth paying £2k for command when you can get the becker sat nav for £500 (or £300 on ebay). Pan roof yes or no?

Having never owned a merc before but had BMW and Audi be greatful for any advice. Am I likely to get any discount from the dealer on top of the £5k finance contribution they are offering at the moment.

Cheers Stu

I'm afraid there's no definitive answer, it's all a metter of personal choice.
This would be mine....
I'd have the 250 over the 220.
Leather looks nice but YES you need heated seats. I wouldn't want to pay too much extra as there are nice but not essential.
Comand is not worth the money (to me anyway). I have a tomtom for the rare times i need a satnav.
Pan roof is nice but not essential. I wouldn't pay much extra for it.

You can probably "chip" a 220 up to 250 output relatively easily if that's your stumbling block. Has to be automatic. Because the C Coupe is so new and still "aspirational" you might find it difficult to get discount from a dealer unless you buy "the one in the showroom" . Have a look at the BUYING ONLINE sites to see what they are offering in the way of discounts-- that's often a guide to the state of the market.

Thanks for the reply the money isnt really the issue but if there isnt much difference between the 220 and 250 then why spend the £1k.

Even though it is a newish car they £5k finance contribution and cheapr rate finance seems very good I wonder if they are not selling as well as expected, seem to be a lot of second hand one for sales already.

In terms of the options just really wanted to know if there are any 'must have' eg auto.

Hi Stu

I have a 250d coupe and never drove a 220d so can't comment other than to say mine is more than powerful enough - I rarely require full throttle. I am sure the 220d will suffice.

Essential options I would suggest are - auto, leather and 5 twin-spoke wheels (no cost) which look so much better IMO. The car comes will a lot of standard kit already.

Command is good as is the media interface but definitely not essential. Could you perhaps find an edition 125 or are they all sold now?

You should be able to push the dealer another £1k or so on the contribution and make them chuck in GAP insurance but you will need to play hard ball and be prepared to walk away both apparently and in reality.

Let me know if you want any more info. Always happy to help.

Got pan roof on mine, leather, auto , sport mode and felt that was enough ! Got the alternative no cost alloys as well. Tried a 220cdi demo and it was quick enough but , for me, after the 3.00tdi Audi wanted bit more poke so opted for the 250cdi.Managed a really good lease deal with York Merc

Mercedes and automatic gearboxes go together like peas & carrots, if that answers that question.

If you do go the leather interior route, I'd recommend getting heated seats; they can be cold in winter without them.

I wouldn't do this on a car on finance or within warranty. On agility finance the car is never really theirs and I bet the true owners would take a dim view of invalidating the warranty in something they have an upwards of £15k interest in.

Can you get cloth upholstery on a C coupe. Everyone goes for leather or artico which both are oppressive in the summer and winter. Heated seats is the only way to go.

Thanks all most helpful.

I would be looking to buy new and hopefully do factory collection. The standard seats are cloth/artico which i thought may be better for the summer/winter.

They are better IMHO having had both leather and half leather/cloth. More comfortable and better in all weathers.

Thought I'd add a bit more to this.

One issue for me is that with 2 kids, access to the back seats is nowhere near as easy as the 3 series coupé and despite being fractionally the bigger car, it is not packaged as well. The passenger seat has to be fairly well forward when there are any rear seat passengers. Not a massive issue, kids are rarely in the car.

Kit wise I added leather and heated seats. I think these are essential in a premium brand car, although they are chucking them out at low £££. I think a Panoramic roof would have been nice and as someone else mentioned, the 5 spoke wheels look better imho

I'd also like my internet to work with the iphone - but it wont.

Good luck

It does seem a bit tight in the back but I only have one child and my girlfriend will be getting a Kuga so most of the time it will just be me.

I will try to get to the garage this weekend to have a look around. Im thinking of calcite white with possibly the red leather. It looks quite dark in the pics but im presuming that in the flesh the red is quite bright.

We have a Kuga as our second car too which my wife drives. Good combo!

Not a fan of red leather but appreciate it works with a white car.
