Has any one fitted aftermarket parking sensors in their mb? Quite a few cheap options out there but unsure if their quality is any good. Is it possible to retrofit parktronic?

Not yet, but bought a cheap set when Maplins had a sale on. Was concerned about connecting it to reversing lights as may upset the canbus, so will try and wire it to a switch in the dash, methinks. Just need to find a switch to go in one of the blanking plates.

Rather disappointed with the cheap set I fitted to the rear of my ML.
Does not compare well with the Parktronic I had on a previous car.
Rather insensitive, if I reverse at a sensible speed I will hit the obstacle before it is detected.
At a slower than normal speed it does work.
More expensive one's may be better.

My previous car had aftermarket sensors fitted front and rear, though the dealer failed to tell me they were not factory fitted. They were an irritation from the start. On the way home it started to snow and that set them off at a very loud and high pitched scream! Took the car back and they were supposed to be repaired: dealer claimed to have adjusted their sensitivity. No such luck. Throughout the time I had the car they would go off intermittently, especially in winter or wet weather, to my and my passengers' great annoyance. However, I could not always rely on them to detect solid objects near the front or rear of the car. Worse than useless! Never again would I contemplate aftermarket sensors. :fail

Every car I've owned has had parking sensors fitted - I call they eye balls :D

I was going to fit Parking Sensors to my C230K and wanted a set most like the OEM offering. I was considering a set from these people.
Think Safety Think Steelmate - Rear Parking Sensors - Front Parking Sensors - DIY Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems - Professional Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems - Daytime Running Lights - Reverse Cameras
Interesting to note in the accessory part of the section they support there sets with spares and alternative displays as well as sensors wiring looms control boxes etc.
For info the OEM systems (at least on my 202) were six sensors on the front and back, four across the front and two on the sides of the bumper.

Sorry about the rant! Don't know what make mine were but must have been badly fitted or poor quality. I am sure some of the better brands will be fine.:thumb:

Doesn't matter mate we are all shaped by our own experiences. I went for Cobra as they are brand Im familiar with and every fitter I spoke to said they are fit and forget with excellent reliability.

My fitter just told me the cobra sensor parts are actually what VAG fit as the OEM solution.

Some time ago I learned how to reverse thus making these things redundant.

Funny that Im getting those fitted to mine today. I considered a retro fit parktronic but wanted the sensors to be 100% flush fitting.

I thought I could do without parking sensors but alas Ive waived the white flag.

Do let us know how they are, I am looking for a fitter in my area.

I've had aftermarket rear sensors and reversing cam installed three years ago - both have been working flawlessly. I didn't want the LED display for the sensors, as these are rarely look OE, so it's audible signal only, which is more than sufficient for me, plus the camera is really good - always get comments from chaps at the local MB dealership, when car goes in for service or check-up ...

How much did you pay for it GLK and where from?

I have often toyed with the idea of the no holes type. Its a metal strip with a self adhesive back that you can tape to the inside of the easily removable bumper strips.

Universal Parking Sensor | No Holes | Front & Rear Reverse Parking Sensors

I fitted these to my wifes Leon, they are hit and miss.

I am also interested in these ones. Let us know if they are worth the "revolutionary" word as advertised.

I fitted those on my old C32 and they worked really well for me. If anyone goes this route I'd recommend heat shrinking the spade terminal where it connects onto the metal tape as I had to replace it after 2 years when it started to corrode.

Hi Marty. It seems a good product. Did you go for front and rear or just rear? Do they come with LCD/beep? Were they easy to install?

I only fitted the rear sensor, I bought a trim removal tool off ebay so I didn't chew the bumper trim strip whilst removing it. Drilled a 10mm hole behind the trim to get the connections back into the boot to connect onto the reversing light feed. It came with a little buzzer that I stuck near the rear window, from memory it used to bleep when reverse was selected as a self test.
