Air con condenser!

Lots of reasons why not. Far, far better to use the MB EPC to find the CORRECT reference for any part. Then use that to cross-reference to aftermarket parts at AutoDoc or wherever.

The generic suppliers cannot be relied upon to identify correct MB numbers, including alternatives.

Honestly.

I had a chat with the person that is going to do the work for me this morning, and asked him about the special edition that my car was supposed to be. He said "he wasn't quite sure but that it was possibly something to do with it being a Bluetec"?
After reading some of the posts here about not wanting to use the cheaper condensers, which made sense, it made me wonder where do Mercedes get theirs from as I don't suppose the make their own.? ( I stand to be corrected they do)

No Mercedes do not make their own, with all Air Con problems it pays to search out a car air con specialist,if you troll the net in your area you will find possibly a couple,I use one 20 miles away in essex first class saves you a fortune by repairing what can be and ordering good quality condensors, still you have decided to go ahead with the quote,I am sure they will do a decent job.

Well that was an interesting phone call, I called Mercedes parts line that's near to me to find out a quote at their prices and they cannot give one, because they no longer do them , ill have to get a third party one. On the bright side I found the correct part number, YAY:) The possibilities are endless;)

That seems very odd considering that they stock all parts for a lot of cars going all the way back to classic car era....try calling somewhere like Mercedes Benz Brentford or Gatwick Parts department.

Give Mercedes Grangemouth, Newcastle or SouthEnd a call. They all deliver and are competitive. I think the first one may give a forum discount

Hi Vijjilants and bob6600 yes it is very odd, a 12 year old car and cannot get parts, it beggars belief.
I'll try those garages you have mentioned but both Mercedes slough and Ascot have the same information "none in stock or available, the person that is going to under take the work also tried another Mercedes garage and he got the same info. Funnily enough he told me he had found one that should fit in Milton Keynes but the price was around £650, I won't repeat what I said

OP, Not sure if it a legal requirement but most manufacturers have a 10 year supply plan after model end . Some manufacturers go further and of course some parts of one discontinued model carry over to the next model.

Most parts on this list would probably be service and collision items rather than things buried deep in the car . That is probably why there is such an aftermarket out there.

Update.
Good afternoon gentle peeps, good news I have managed to source a converter, apparently the last one in the UK, although I was told there are actually 24 in Germany.
I ordered it to day and should have it on Friday, yay!!!!
This was ordered through Mercedes Benz Newbury, well done them, I still find it odd that other MB parts departments had no clue what the hell they were talking about:mad:

Good news.

Hence the reason as to why I recommended MB Brentford as some of the franchises are useless. If none were available in the UK any decent MB parts department would check stock in Germany and let you know how long it would take....that's the way it usually works.

merk Do not think it odd that the parts department in a main MB dealer sometimes appear not to have a frucking clue . I have been down that road with a main MB (AMG) dealership with the rear brakes on my C55...'computer say's no' type of scenario. I just bought my parts elsewhere.

It does not just happen at MB main dealers I have experienced it with other marques. It's infuriating , but you got there in the end. :thumb:

Update.
I have now got a freezing cold car (waits for warm weather to come back)
The work took around 4 hrs and cost £388 all in, the part £581 ah well at least its all over know.
Thanks all that answered my queries/questions, I appreciate it.
So its your fault the weather has turned cold..............

Good price on labour, these aren't they easiest change. So you went with genuine MB in the end?

I would be interested to know who the air con specialist is in Essex that you recommend. Thanks.

Hi Carlos2k, yes I bought from Newbury MB, the lad that I felt with told me this was the last condenser for my make of car in the UK, but that there were 24 in Germany, how he was able to get this info and other MB main dealers could not still has me dumbfounded.

I use Into Cool at Burnham on Crouch Essex family run and the costs are decent, they do repair compressors, which is a big saving on buying a new one.the have started a mobile service but I have not used that and not sure how far they cover
