Air-con/Fan issue or both

Hi all,

When I viewed the car we checked to make sure that the air-con was working, otherwise I was going to walk, remember it was a rather hot Saturday (2 weekends ago), had the air-con riunning and it was cold in the car so thought it was ok.

Trying to get it working this Saturday and the light came on for the air-con off button (was fiddling with the buttons at the time pressing on and off).

Also noticed that if I turn the fans up full I get nothing, well nothing at all from the vents at anytime.

Managed to get error codes 1269 & 1256 (had KLA V over the top of them) which from the web I found these two:

B1256 B10/6 (Evaporator temperature sensor) - Evaporator front
B1269 Communication fault of A/C bus with control - unit B31/1 (AAC multi function sensor)

Which seem to tie in, reset the error codes and now the light on the AC off switch has gone off, it did seem a comfortable tempreture in the car to and from the supermarket tonight but still no full on fan blowing - I don't even know if it should do that or not?

Hope this makes some sort of sense?

The car is going back to the dealer on Thursday so he can have a look at it, just wanted to see if I can get information on it if any at all.

Sure there is a question in there somewhere.

Thanks
Alan

Not sure whether this has anything to do with your problem, but a couple of months ago I noticed that my fan had stopped working. Booked it into my dealership, and they found that both the fan and blower regulator had failed. They put it down to the fact that the drain holes had become blocked with leaf mulch, which had in turn led to the carbon filter becoming waterlogged, thus placing a strain on the fan motor - which eventually gave up the ghost.

Needed a new heater fan and a new control unit for the air con, plus a new carbon filter, of course.

I think the problem must have been brewing for a long time, as it was at least two years since the car had been parked near enough to my trees for the leaf mulch to have accumulated. :o

It would help if you told us what model of car you have and what kind of A/C control.

Hi,

Ah, yeah, suppose that would help, I posted quite a few threads last night and I thought I'd put it in them, sorry about that.

It's a W220 - S320 CDI on an 02 plate.

It's full climate control (in the front), don't know a name or type, but suppose I could post a photo tonight if that helps?

Thanks
Alan

Edit: Is it hard to change the filters? - I'm not that mechanical but did fit cruise control to last car - albeit I was just changing the stalk, so not 100% useless.

If you have the Climate Control on Auto, the fan speed controls may well do nothing. That's certainly the case with my W203.

Having said that, you should get some airflow nevertheless. If your C/C is the type with a digital display there is a way of getting it to perform a self check. Hopefully someone will be along soon to tell us how.

If the fans are in the off position on my S203 the aircon cuts out after a few seconds, turn the fan onto the lowest position and the aircon works OK.
