Hi all

After driving home I though it sounded loud after a closer look the centre exhaust boxs are missing and delete pipes in place would this have also been mapped ?
The reg was ea51 baz dose anyone know the car
The dealer I got it off is looking into it
Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like it has resonator delete, a popular mod to get a little more sound.
What's the dealer looking into??

The dealer didn't know about it so are trying to contact previous owner
As you look under where are the cats ? As I can't see those either

...The reg was ea51 baz...

After some Googling...

Your car is apparently 2014 MERCEDES M-CLASS ML63 AMG

EA51 BAZ is a private plate? And you bought the car with this plate? If so can you post the car's original plate?

Because it seems that this plate was on a "kitted dark blue Astra with tints" around 10 years ago...:

Spotted EA51 BAZ

A decatted ML63 doesn't necessarily mean it has been re mapped as well.
It may be worth finding out for insurance purposes though.

If I'm not mistaken, the dealer should be able to reflash the ECU with a stock map if it is remapped and you don't want it.

General note about insurance.

I'm cautious and beyond fitting a tow bar (always declared to insurance Co) don't modify my cars and wouldn't knowingly buy one that had been modded. When the insurance Co ask has the car been modified I always try to prefix my response with "to the best of my knowledge and belief..."

For the minimal cost involved, I'd put it through an MOT (you'll need to sometime this year anyway) to check it passes emission limits....and everything else of course.

Saves a big shock later when the guarantee runs out...

There's already been a test case on this I believe.

It is not reasonable for subsequent car owners to know every bit of history or modification about their car - including options from the factory and what was standard.

This would assume all people are car experts which of course they aren't.

So even if the OP insured it as standard, it wouldn't cause any come back unless there is any evidence to show the OP modified it (or probably if it was blatently not standard like you would find on barryboys.co.uk).

Thanks all for advise. Like was said I will take it for mot as this is the cheapest option to see if it passes emissions and closer look at exhaust

Did the dealer give a warranty with the car as from memory it would be invalidated due to the mods?

It used to be if you modded the exhaust, just the exhaust wasn't covered anymore.

Not sure if still the case.

If you have a duff wheel bearing, they can't blame the exhaust!

As far as I am aware my 450sl left the factory in 1973with Lorinser body kit , BBS alloys , Electric seats nicked from a Rover , and a few other bits and bobs.

Dont take it for an MOT - take it to your local MOT station and ask them to just review the readings...

^ They will need star diagnostic to review the readings-not many non mb garages will have this equipment.

Excuse me for saying, but its not your job to point out the cats are missing.
9/10 the MOT tester isn't concerned with the number of cats you have, just that the car passes the emissions.

My secondary cats have been removed and the tester has made no mention of them on two MOT's. Emissions are all they care about unless you get a really pedantic tester.

They do care about primaries though...

My E55K wouldn't pass without going to somewhere who couldn't tell if the CATs were fitted or not after I fitted them with a blindfold. :D

^ Yes, I assumed the primaries are still in place on the OP's car and just the secondaries removed to give extra V8 growl. If the primaries are gone as well I wonder if the ML would pass the emissions test at all?

I know the re-mappers code out the o2 sensors when headers are fitted if the secondaries are already gone, to stop the EML lighting up.

I'm not sure on the emissions.

One MOT guy told me it wouldn't pass. A previous year, another one told me it would and did. This was on my E though.

:dk:

I'm slightly astonished...

I'd have thought the unmodified ML63 would have a decent enough voice....
