c320 cdi on paper!!
Hi All,

moving " newbie dealership woes " to here after latest. Sorry guys but I feel like the moany-est member yet who owns a mercedes on paper but not in the real world!!, still no word on part from Germany so phoned dealership who told me part was on back order, which means and I quote " it's not on the shelf, it needs to be made specially by Mercedes in Germany " -C320 cdi control module, ecu I'm guessing, anyone heard such crap?? Anyway point of post is, spotted decent C350 in another Merc dealership and thinking of switching already signed finance to other car.... anyone done this? straight forward? nightmare? any advice welcomed as got my heart set on 3l C class.
Anyone add to pros and cons list of both cars that I might be missing?

2008 C320 cdi pros...
Command system
adaptive damping system (sport button)
panoramic roof
amg styling
18" 5 spokes
linguatronic
harmon kardon upgrade
bi-xenon upgrade
sat-nav 4gb storage etc
Full leather
parktronic front and back
Pretty much the highest spec I've seen on C class, Is this car worth the wait or should I cut my losses as not been impressed with dealership and now been waiting 3 weeks for new car or......

2010 C350 cdi blue efficiency sport pros...

2 years younger
amg sports package
18" alloys
Full leather
parktronic
cheaper road tax (I think??)
7 more horses
more torquey
better fuel consumption?? suppose depends on driving style
better trade in value

Any help appreciated as so wanted to be raving about new Merc!!

Thanks fellas:thumb:

Close but no cigar bud, if I said " doon the watter" a bit would you know? Sorry to all proper English speakers!! In fact I'm naming them Mercedes Benz of Ayr but I'm guessing main Glasgow branch ain't much better?

No experience of car finance but isn't there some kind of cooling off period for credit deals?

I Think I've got 14 days to pull out finance deal with no comeback, don't know what happens if I've not had car in that time though and under approved used I think there is a 30 day or 1000 mile policy where you can change your mind but think this applies to car only and not the finance
deal. I'm sure someone on here could clarify this a bit. In my case I'm happy enough with the finance deal just not the dealership and lost a bit of confidence with the car so looking to switch finance from one car to another via another dealership, which hopefully isn't a nightmare!

Unless anyone can give you real hard info, why not just try doing it and providing you don't commit yourself to buying a brace of Mercs, see what happens.

Undoubtedly, you be 'on side' with a very good friend in the salesman from the second dealership and/or the general manager. If anything goes wrong, compared to you, he would be deemed as an 'expert' in all matters ivolving car sales and finance. He may even be on first name terms with the guys at the first dealership and be able to make it all happen smoothly.

Forget the rest of the issues, but I would definitely take the facelift car over the pre facelift, so much nicer on every level.
Don't get me wrong the pre facelift I still like, but the facelift is a no brainer.

I would say you are cancelling the finance, if they are prepared to get that car from the other dealer and do you a healthy discount (I take it the 350cdi is more?) and put the Becker Nav in, then you will sign up again.

However, you are walking away from that car and that initial finance agreement.

If the part is back order then you have to wait i'm afraid. I waited 3 months for a loom for an SL. It was made to order.

You bought a car in good faith via finance. The supplying dealer has failed to deliver said car. I would have thought you are in a strong position to walk away from the deal. Which I would----- rapidly.

Thanks for the posts guys,

Couple of develoments since posting, dealership phoned yesterday saying they should have part today and car should be ready Saturday at the latest, however went to see C350 anyway- pre-facelift by the way 2010- salesman already had an inkling of trouble with original dealer as per short phone call earlier, basically said it was too neat timewise to do anything with the finance as 14 days were just up and car showing on system as mine, taxed etc finance company had transferred funds already but if not happy with car take it back- 30 day rule/1000 mile etc and he would sort me a good deal on the c350, got to be honest tho c350 not a patch on original car spec so didn't feel right. Upshot is c320 is mine to pick up on sat- subject to new test drive and a big grin and i may forgive whats went on, I'm also looking to get 2 weeks worth of expired warranty back dated, a printed service history and some paper work to show what prep work has been carried out prior to handover, not too much to ask surely? Especially since I discovered looking over finance paper work that I had been charged twenty quid diesel for a test drive and for some new plates as car came in with private reg!! Cheeky feckers, just want to get car and forget about dealers and hope I don't need to go near the shark infested waters again! Watch this space.

Now there is a lesson on how to keep a customer coming back!!

Holy Cow, that has to be the sharpest practice I have ever heard of after a sale.

I would tell them to shove it on seeing that.

Charged you for £20 quids worth of paraffin for the test drive?

Wow!! Unbe****inglievable.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy.

Look forward to seeing some pics! The C320 cdi is a great car - Enjoy!

Stop press!!! Merc dealership comes good !! 40 year old stunned by customer service!! OK I'm laying it on thick but got to say , picked up car 24 hrs before scheduled handover and wow!,f**k me, blown away, car looks immense. Had my cynical head on for pick up after posted issues, but got to say it all faded on sight. Kept sensible head on, told them, subject to new test drive and nothing less than big cheesy grin upon return!, well biggest cheeser in a long time, car is superb and so glad I held out for this one with best spec on C Class I've seen in a long time. Was wrestling with the crap you need to put up with salesmen etc and still needled about getting stung for diesel for test drive and plates, but Jesus, this really is a top car,I know most members on here are used to having mercs but coming from a not too shabby v6 mondeo... well ok no comparison, love it!, Can't fault dealership either,we have had our tussles but got to say, they turned on the smarm, sorry charm, maybe harsh but delivered in the end. Although got to say salesman seemed worried about customer service email-suspect generated by head office- and main manager pulled me aside to say problems with car can happen and not to let it affect salesman scoring and they endeavoured to put all problems right, me being me made them sweat a bit, but not one to hold grudges and lets be honest folks it is about the car you're pickin up not the sales ****,was happy in the end,but now onto the interesting bits had a 35 mile drive home mainly dual carriageway but found the longest way home yet!, wow managed a couple of lovely fishtails! the mb club won't condone this but please don't judge comin' from a v6 front wheel drive mondeo,it's been missed since my sierra ghia days,I could have picked and chose who to burn up on the way home but spent too much time tryin' to work the command system! although did manage to burn a baseball capped bm325i owner in some right dodgy get up-a story for another time-but backed out probably for laughing when a skoda fabia with eyelashes! and a fat bearded man passed me! probably still amazed coz the linguatronic could understand glaswegian!
will try to get some piccies up soon but now too drunk!! one happy new blown away merc owner signing off!

yeah bud,
couldn't believe it either, my own fault tho, had salesman in one ear and wife in the other, was just tryin to keep an eye on apr and final monthly payment but lesson for us all in there! anyway worked out in the end, car good and bought the salesman an indian for 20 quid spread over three years so rancid curry all round!!
