Thanks Diselman...!
Glojo: I never have used a porter cable before for polishing/waxing ad would probably end up ding more harm than good due to my lack of experience with porter cables
.
I'll just to do it the good old fashioned way and at the same time will give my arms a work out as well.
Grrrr I just typed a reply and it has disappeared
(definitely operator error)
My better half is the main operator of our polisher and trust me.... she is NOT the worlds most technically able person. She is not only left-handed, she is also kack handed
(and out of the room at present)
These polishers are extremely easy to use and I cannot see how you could damage the bodywork. The joy of using them is the speed which they apply the application. You should quite literally take about an eighth of the time when polishing your van, if not even quicker. The pads cannot damage the bodywork, plus a Sprinter van is ideally suited to this method of polishing.
I often lay on the floor and polish the lower halves of our vehicles and my only complaints about these polishers are a) the weight and b) they need a 110v transformer. To a 'normal' person the weight will NOT be an issue, but the transformer is a nuisance, but I am a great believer in 'You get what you pay for'! The porter cable is excellent. Is there anyone near you that could loan you one. Be warned though, they can be addictive. I have read of some folks not getting on with them, so it might be worth hearing what there problems were.
Neither my wife or I have ever used one of these polishers to actually put a shine onto our vehicles. In my opinion it would be a waste of time in ever respect. The polisher very quickly applies a uniform, fine coating of polish which very quickly dries. We simply use a terry cloth and simply dust off this coating. You will easily do this a walking pace on a Sprinter!!
As you can imagine, I am a Porter cable convert and am so pleased I bought one for the better half

John
