I have a 2015 build X253 GLC Premium Plus. It has the larger console.
The data sheet for the build shows :-
531 Comand APS NTG5/NTG5.5 and
537 Digital Radio Standard DAB

Is it possible to add Apple Carplay to this unit? If so, how simple a job is it and at what sort of cost?

Thanks for any helpful replies.

According to Apple's website, Apple CarPlay is natively supported on the GLC from 2018 onwards, so I guess the answer is No:

Said that, you can always give www.comandonline.co.uk a call, they know what's what.

If it does indeed turn out that Apple CarPlay cannot be activated on your car, you can consider opting for 3rd-party hardware solutions that will add Apple CarPlay.

Thanks for the detailed reply MJ.

Thank you for the solution you have provided. Looks like an excellent solution. I will have to put it on my ‘must have’ Christmas list!

Hi,

This is the same MY as my E Class, and I understand Comand NTG5.1 (opt 531) does have generic support for CarPlay.
Comand Online is definitely a solution that worked for me: but I live closer to them than Cardiff! They may be able to send you the necessary hardware, firmware and instructions to activate. You may be looking at circa. £300+ plus VAT.

Alternatively, the other route is to make sure you get the most up to date firmware installed for the Comand system by your local Dealership and try a CarPlay / Android Auto plug-in dongle available via eBay. I cannot personally vouch for this - but there are plenty of others who claim success this way. My experience is the dealership will claim CarPlay is not available due to the configuration of your vehicle, but that is because they either don't know how or are not licensed to do the necessary updates.

My experience with CarPlay is good - especially when you overcome the flat sound default!

Good luck.

The GLC has NTG5*2 so this kit from Comand Online won’t work. The Integrated Audio solution mentioned above has received positive reviews on the other side.

GLC. Audio-20 from 2018 (NTG5*2) but not COMAND. But COMAND (NTG6) supports CarPlay - which is only from the MY20 (earlier this year) release.

We are testing the product mention above in Alfie's car. Its tricky coding needed to make it work with COMAND ..

Cheers

Richard

Thanks for all the very helpful advice. I will try talking to my Merc dealer and see if I can get any sense out of them. Also, I will Look into whether the OBD option will work, but having done a little research already I am doubtful of this being a successful solution. Talking to the Comand people looks like the most favoured option.

Thanks again everyone.
