Hi

I’d like some advice, I have drooping rear end (not to be laughed at) over night on my S211 e class estate. The local garage has confirmed that both air springs from the SLS (not Airmatic suspension) have gone but one side more than the other. So they need replacing.

I the Indi garage has quoted me the proper MB kit €3255 with 2 air springs and connecting cables and reservoir. Apparently you have to replace the reservoir as well as moisture collects in it and can damage the springs. If you don’t replace the reservoir as well it voids the warrantee on the air springs!!!

As you can imagine i’d prefer another option.

The Indi garage is more than happy to fit for me the Arnott Rear Air Springs - Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon (W211) - Left and Right, Part Number: A-2726 but I have to supply them as he has problems with Arnott front air spring on a different car with full airmatic, the on board computer said no! And had to be reset every couple of weeks, with no help from Arnott.

Does any one have experience with the Arnott Rear Air Springs, Part Number: A-2726? Or even the conversion to old fashioned springs? Have Arnott been helpful when problems arise?

Thanks

The author makes an interesting assertion that many of the leaks attributed to the flexible unit may actually stem from leaks where the alloy strut reservoir is connected to the airstrut! Evidently the whole thing is supplied as a complete unit ex factory?
Heres a pic of the corrosion on the connecting reservoir spiggot

Mercedes refer to the main central reservoir in the boot as the Aircell item 10

and here's an arnot how to video I was hoping it might show the air spring reservoir more clearly than it does but just mentions disconnecting the large bore connecting hose!
If you are strapped for cash it might be worth exploring the leaking reservoir spiggot/pipe theory if you can get to it?

Hi Thank you grober for taking a look. Unfortunately my car doesn't have the airmatic system. it is a different SLS system, only found on estate cars. Apparently it is less trouble!

This kind of maintenance is a bit beyond my skill level but would like to know if the Arnott products are viable alternative to genuine Mercedes parts from 1st hand experience.

Am I in for more trouble? or am I better to take the eye waveringly expensive route?

Thank you

Hi, I had a similar situation with my S212 model earlier this year. The rear of the car dropped, one side faster than the other but the car was fully down after a couple of days.
I fitted Aerosus rear suspension units - they were the best price, availability, delivery combination.
I did it myself and wrote it up on the 'other side'.
It isn't that difficult and doesn't need extra work like dropping the rear subframe but I haven't done it on an S211.

I suggest that you find an indy who has done it before.

Think you must have the simpler units then - without the air strut reservoirs?

Thank you yes, that is my challenge, I'm in Spain and my Spanish is not technical enough. very few mechanics speak English But that is my problem! ha ha

I will have a look at Aerosus rear suspension units though! Thanks
