Any got or used one?

Being in a tech industry & also reasonably hands on with my spanner I feel a decent investment in a device that could help diagnose/resolve issues going forward might be a useful, interesting & fun purchase.

It seems the Autel devices are well regarded for small generic independent shops that are brand agnostic. Read some reviews & good comments about their MaxiSys Pro MS908P. Seems to do quite a bit supporting many manufacturers & also doing ECU coding & programming & SCN key coding.

This is the baby:

I hadn't used the Volvo V40 for a few weeks....went to start it...electrics OK but no attempt at cranking & 9 random errors from pretty much all various secondary ECU's/systems. Called AA out....they couldn't diagnose or fix. After a bit of research took main engine ECU out. Located out side inffont of N/S wheel in arch behind liner...I kid you not.

Stuck it on too of the RayBurn for a couple of days. A bit of contact cleaner sprayed on all connections & ECU reinstalled. Worked a treat...started & works fine now. I dare so many places would have charged a fair bit for diagnosing/troubleshooting that. Also a big risk you could ripped off when they say....sorry needs new ECU....barf a kidney please.

I need a 2nd key for the SL as previous owner lost it when I bought it which are 250 quid from Mercedes. If it can do Merc key coding then you can buy a 2nd hand key...get the bad cut from 1st key in most key cutting places...then code the key.

Any one got any thoughts on an scanners or diagnostic devices a but more advanced than the cheap few hundred quid stuff. This Autel is about 2k Inc VAT I think.

Just can see a few ways it would pay for itself over time.

I have the DS708 which is the older version of this scanner (I bought it in 2014). It's still a nice scanner for anything up to 2014 models and will do learning for things like computers and sensors and as I don't own anything new, I don't feel the urge to upgrade it. I don't think that the tool that you're listing supports MB key programming, although it might support other cars.

The only ones that I've seen that do require you to take the dash apart and desolder the lock from the dash in order to wire it up to the machine and reprogram it. There is one by xhorse I believe that does allow programming via OBD2, using a combo of old key and replacement key but it costs $3000. I've i'm proven to be wrong, please let me know because I have at least 5 MB's in my collection that were bought at auction and only had one key. Getting this tool will pay for itself fast.

the carsoft stuff is much much cheaper and well regarded

I have the mot pro, bought it last year and has done most things asked of it, although i cant figure out how to do dpf regens on vag’s as it asks for a code, doesnt do this with any other manufacturer

Thanks for info. Fairly early days yet as just doing plenty of research. It is not my day job so a 2k ish investment is a fair decision. Certainly will let you know what I find out about MB key coding though. Would be a great tool to do this on MB for sure.

Thanks for the info. What do you think the 2k Pro 908p is doing that your MOT Pro doesn't do? Was that about 4-500 quid?

I bought mine from the mac tools man and was slightly more, my old work had the 908 and tbh unless your going into serious diagnosis work it just doesnt warrant it, they both have a different layout of how you access certain functions but once your in the function they both have the same layout and terminology

Apparently with the included additional Autel MaxiFlash Pro J2534 ECU programming tool it is supposed to do MB & BMW key coding. I think I'll contact Autel & confirm though.

Problem could be that the year 2 onwards updates for the MS908P seem pricey maybe 1k per year whereas Wolfie's MOT Pro device updates are about 70 quid for year 2 onwards.

Interesting.... thanks. Might be only US so far as don't see it much in the UK yet.
