CLK500, MGF VVC(NOS) sub13s 1/4... Boring 4 door...
Hi experts,

My car a CLK500 has been in my garage for 6 months and the battery is flat...:( It will jump start however is seems even after a long drive the battery wont fully charge and therefore it looks like it needs a new battery... I was wondering if it was possible to change the battery DIY or will the car need to go to the MB garage to be reprogrammed, etc?

Cheers

Certain things will need resetting after the battery is disconnected.

Do you still have mobilo, as they carry new batteries and can reset your electrics as well?;)

If you have a jump start positive terminal under the bonnet, connect a battery to that, remove your old battery, replace with new and disconnect the other battery, job done. If not, keep a battery supply to your battery leads, via set of jump leads and replace battery.

It might, just might, be possible to save the battery by taking it out of the car and putting it on a low rate trickle charge for 24 hours. Mind you if it's more than three years old it's probably not worth the effort as a complete discharge does a battery no good at all.

As Brian says, if you have Mobilo declare the car a failure and call them out.

Just to add the car alternators are not designed for charging flat batteries, and you can damage them as a result.

Charge it off the car, the reason being that the high voltage required to get the battery to charge can damage sensitive components on the car, bare in mind that the voltage can go over 20 volts on a flat battery.
