After I start my car (W211 E320) around 10 secs later I get a loud beep. I can't find any reference as to what this is in the handbook. Anyon got any ideas.
It does sound like it's supposed to do that so I'm not to concerned, just interested.

Might be command firing up, just a guess and I am probably wrong

Might be a door not quite shut? When it beeps have a quick look at the instumnent cluster and check messages?

I used to own a C-Class.... did these beep when the 'handbrake' was slightly on?

yep! even the old ones (like mine!;) ) but also have a red light on the dash board and you can't go very fast or far!

Is the bleep audible when the vehicle is stationery or moving?

Normally, if hand brake is on or a door or bonnet has not been shut correctly/firmly the MFD would come up with the error in addition to the audiable bleep. Normally, when a service is due it just appears in the MFD without a audioble bleep. If the bleep is is present everytime that you start the car then there is a problem somewhere and if under warranty then take it to MB as it would be covered.

It could be the TP button on the radio which is for the "Traffic alert". This beeps after about 10 secs. Just look at the display on radio and if it is there, then that is most likely the reason. Otherwise other beeps if they are warning messages would stay on the dash display.

Cheers

Mine did that if I wasnt wearing seatbelt - got mechanic to turn it off with star. LOL not that I dont wear seatbelt... in fact dont know why I got him to turn it off!!!

There is no indication on the instrument cluster

The car has only just had a MB service

There are no malfunctions

I never use the handbrake anyway cos it's auto

Could be the Traffic Alert thingy, I'll try it later.

As I say it doesn't sound like it's a fault warning, more like something has just activated.

If you rely on park and not your handbrake, you are taking a big risk.

On the beep, have you got bluetooth in the car, it could be that aquiring itself to your phone.

There is another beep afterwards which is the phone pairing beep so it's not that either.

I don't agree about the Park and handbrake issue though. Park locks the transmission so there is no way that baby's gonna move. Obviously on a steep incline I would for safety put on the handbrake but normally I wouldn't use it. It's only there for a safety brake anyway (on an auto) i.e. in case of normal brake failure.

If you saw how thin the pin is in the gear that holds "P" in place then you would always apply the hand brake on the slighest bit of slope (s).

Ditto.

Simple 2 second job to apply the brake could save you a lot of hassle if the prawl lets go
