Best budget tyre

Three A P606 , we ended up with 16 in the family and are on two of my cars ( Merc has on rears ).

Landsail LS588 had some good feedback on a few forums .

Best in which category?

Cheapest?
Quietest?
Best MPG
Best mileage?
Best dry grip?
Best wet grip?

....

Avon ZZ5 are an excellent tyre equivalent in performance to many premium manufacturers, yet very well priced.

225/40/18s are £70 each fully fitted from National tyres.

Do you mean National Tyres? I recently ordered Avon tyres from them online but the manager rang to say they were out of stock with no idea of availability. Not necessarily the situation now of course.

Yes I do, I have used them before for my car with no issues. Perhaps an issue specific to your tyre size? :)

Now that my wheels have been refurbished I only use Blackboots tyres Chesham to fit my tyres.

I don't see the point in buying a Mercedes, then sticking cheapo budget tyres on it.
Tyres along with brakes are the most important thing keeping you and your family safe. Why scrimp?:dk:

'Cheapo budget tyres'......hmmmmm. If I fit a tyre that is, say, half the price of a 'premium' brand, but I find that it's at least as good in all the important areas, is that a bad thing per se? No, of course it isn't. Anyone intelligent enough to realise that price doesn't necessarily equate to a given item being 'superior' should be able to make an informed decision about what they're fitting to their car. I fitted Ovation VI388s, at £102 the pair, delivered, to the rear of my E280CDi Sport, in the size the OP mentions, I believe - there is no....that's no....noticeable difference between the two brands, in the wet, the dry, in braking, wear levels....in fact, the Ovations are a tad quieter, so the only 'difference' is a plus. Sure, there are some atrocious tyres out there....Pirellis spring to mind, I won't touch them with a bargepole, ever!

I agree and was massively sceptical about budget tyres , of course there are those to avoid but then some premium tyres aren't all that .

They replaced some Dunlop Sport Maxx RT on one car .

To an extent, I agree. There are some reasonable budget tyres around and I too wouldn't touch Pirellis either. Noisy when part worn and the grip levels poor in the wet below 4mm.
I recall buying my first E280, not a fast car by any means and I hadn't spotted that two new Sunny tyres had been fitted on the rear.
I found out when I lost the back end that any decent tyre would have laughted at. From then on, budget tyres were, and are a no no for me.

I just get the impression the OP is looking to spend as little money as possible on the upkeep of his Mercedes. His choice, but good tyres are important to me, irrespective of cost.

Amgleed you no nothing about my intentions!! I asked a simple question to get some reply’s ,as I have!! Then to make my mind up! You know nothing as to what I am wanting to do!! Irritating to say the least!! Thanks to others for the interesting reply’s

I apply exactly that principle to any car, or motorbike, I happen to have, but it doesn't mean I'm putting myself, or others, at risk in doing so. Good tyres are important to me too, and I know I needn't spend, say, £150 a corner, when I can get the same levels of performance and safety for less than half the price. I'll be fitting Ovations to the front too, once the excellent Nokians wear out, no hesitation at all.

So Post#4 I made showing you a review of all budget tyres was of no use to you.
Sorry I bothered.

Glad you have found a good tyre at a price you are happy with. We all do that.
I'll stick to my mid range Falkens and Goodyear F1 asymmetrics. Around £15 -£20 a corner more than a budget brand.

It's a pity nobody can post their opinion on the forum without someone (the OP) taking offence.
I thought we were all adults here.

I like Falkens, and I've used them previously on an IS250, with good results. I also like Avons, particularly their winters, which perform amazingly well for very reasonable money, especially if bought from Germany. Mind you, I've a mate who fits/balances for me - he charges a (cheap!) bottle of red per corner...bargain! :D

My Kia came with factory-fitted Nexen tyres and they were fine.

Also, some new Mercs come with Hankook tyres, so they must be fine as well.

Hope this helps.

I traditionally buy my tyres from Costco...Michelin, the cost are usually reasonable compared to other suppliers and they have reasonable performance and durability...the Avon ZZ5 sounds interesting at that price through!
