Best Tyre Combination

I have a 99 W220 S320 Fitted with 18" wheels, The Tyres need replacing, at the moment they are fitted with 255/45-R18 Tyres all round, Speaking to my local Tyre centre they say I could have wider tyres on the Rear, Can someone reccomend a good tyre size set up.
