biger engine for a 407d

I have a 407d with a very worn out OM 616 engine and would like to replace it with some thing a bit bigger. would i have to change the gearbox if the engine went to a w123 300d and would this engine fit the 407.. or can any one surjest any thing else that would work..

Plenty of people put 617s in 307s, so I don't see why it would not fit.

Something a bit newer. possibly Japanese or a Cummins B series might give you a bit more power though.
