Bought a used C Class - Questions surround MercedesMe/Phone Connection

Hi All,

I bought a 2015 C Class SE just over a week ago (during the time the Mercedes Me portal was down), and I've been having a few issues with all the available Mercedes Me services being stuck at 'activating', my Audio 20 says 'SOS not ready', none of the buttons in the overhead console work and I cannot initiate a call with the 'MB Contact' either. I've spoken to Mercedes who have raised a ticket with second line technical team, who are currently looking at it, however, I want to make sure I'm not doing anything daft.

A few days after I purchased and the site come up, I accepted the T&C's (which I can see in my MercedesMe account online) and can see I should have the basic services such as breakdown, SOS, information calling from the overhead console. A couple of days later I also purchased some services that Mercedes said were available based on my VIN (parking locator, geofencing, remote locking etc). They said the services should activate whilst I'm driving, but obviously they haven't.

As far as I'm aware, I shouldn't have to do anything at all after purchasing and agreeing to the T&Cs, the car should connect by itself. I don't have to pair a phone, give internet access, or download any apps onto the car?

Just in case I have tried deleting the app a couple of times, I have my phone already connected via Bluetooth but tried enabling the internet connectivity option as well just in case, and can access the internet on the car. I have seen some cars with the Mercedes Me app actually on the car, but I can't get this. I've also seen some cars get a message saying 'Mercedes Me would like to connect to this vehicle' but have also never seen that. The Bluetooth connection has all permissions the car asked for.

Is there anything I can do?

P.S As a side note, on the Audio 20 Sat Nav, if I send instructions from my phone to the car, do I always have to navigate to 'Download POI' under the internet section, or is the vehicle supposed to pick it up automatically and start navigating?

Thanks

I don't know the answers to your specific questions, but just to say that a 2015 W205 will be a very early example (the W205 model was first introduced in mid-2014), so I would be looking at a firmware update for all relevant systems (Audio20, KOM Module, etc) as a first step. This can be done by a dealer, or by an independent specialist with genuine STAR and active subscription.

Thanks, would this have not been done at it's latest service? It was serviced just before I bought it, and it's an Approved Used Mercedes vehicle, so was bought from, and serviced by a dealer.

Is there any way I can check myself what version it's on?

Firmware updates are not carried-our routinely.

The dealer will only carry it out if a fault is present and the technical bulletin (WIS) says that a firmware update is needed.

When the car is still covered under the new car warranty, firmware updates are done for free (if recommended by WIS). Not sure what is the status with the Approved Used warranty - it might be covered, or it might be chargeable.

Incidentally, MB Brooklands charged me £55 for TCU and ECU software updates, which I requested of them when the car was being serviced.

Still not working, salesperson spoke to their tech who agreed it might need a firmware update so they’re gonna do it free of charge. See if that helps.

Hi did you manage to get this sorted out as i have the exact same problem, just bought a 2017 C250 and only certain Mercedes Me options are working and no overhead console call buttons working.

When I’ve had problems with services activating on the car I found that disabling those features in the app, waiting for a few hours, and then re-enabling the same features kick started them into life. Worth a go.

Yeah worth a go, i will deactivate everything and wait a few hours.
Thanks.

Still no luck,

Still no luck :( is this possibly a comunication module problem, doesnt seem to be a common problem and OP has not posted the outcome.

Try contacting Mercedes Customer Sevrices (not the dealer) and selecting the option (or asking for) MercedesMe.

I had to contact them a couple of times and found them very good albeit slow if they can’t fix it there and then and need to refer on.

Had an email back from Mercedes Me (Stuttgart) and they have told me to give it to the dealer with a list of possibilites, 1, is the date correct on the car? just checked though (workshop) mode and the cars date is 2001? its a 2017 car? is there any way to change the date as you do the time?

All sorted, Mercedes Stuttgart diagnosed right with the 1st of possible options.
Date on the car was set to 25/12/2001, firmware update and date corrected and all working.
Just thought i would finish the post so any who has or gets the problem in the future can try this first.
Thanks everyone for suggustions.

How did you manage to change the Date setting. ?

Mercedes done it at the dealership, not sure if you can on it yourself on the car settings?
Someone might know on here.
