Braking lights gone alternately

I have a 1995 C280.

For these a few months, I lived with indash LAMP check warning light. Finally, I decided to fix it and found that the high mounted stop lamp had gone.

So, I bought one from a local third-party part shop and replaced it, and then the warning light was also cleared. I was very happy with that.

Only 3 days later, however, one of the rear breaking lights is gone again. So I replaced TWO breaking lights at the same time. Then, the warning light was cleared.

Sadly two days later, the high mounted stop lamp went out again. I also found that the one of breaking light socket in the bulb holder is slightly melted down, probably from high heat.

I think there is some problem with the breaking lights system.

Will it help to replace the bulb holder?

I am also considering changing the whole bulbs in the rear with dealer parts.

Any comments on this will be highly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

2 Years ago I fitted my highlevel brake light, and did a dodgy connection with the passenger side rear bulb circuit.

This caused the bulb cluster to fail completely, it couldnt ever carry and current.

Only way I fixed this was by buying a new circult from Mercman (about £8 IIRC), maybe this is a help?

Thanks a million KillerHERTZ.

If the problem continues, I will try that.

Thank you again ;)
